Onside recovery overturned after player waved for fair catch.

I was watching.
I was unaware of the rule.
Great OSU Special Teams Coaching!

Smart by player but like @williewilliejuan said, rule will be changed in offseason

Or by next week. The Pickett rule got changed the Tuesday after he slid but didn't. This would result in the end of the onside kick so I'm glad it benefitted us but it isn't going to benefit anyone else.

Yeah, read about this and loved that someone found the loop hole in the rule.

Reminds me a Randall Cobb on the kick off for the Packers, ball the dribbling down the field, so he steps out and grabs the ball, making it a kickoff out of bounds.

4D Chess.

that is wild -- how can you call a fair catch if the ball has hit the ground already?

I’m surprised no one did it sooner. Rule change to follow.
Yeah no way this rule doesnt get altered in the offseason. Calling for a fair catch on an onsides kick is such a ridiculous copout

fuck that guy

The rule book states that “during a free kick, a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.”

I get it if the guy had hit the guy trying to field the kick, but he came in from the side and touched the ball first. I expect that will be the rule change.

Genius play by that kid...but yeah, that's gonna change. lol

I believe it's intentional result of new rule.

Applies to high bounce so player can't get smoked while trying to field it in name of player safety

So what if the ball hits the ground more than once. ???
I believe it only applies if bounced high in the air and on it's way down. I suppose if ball managed two high hops one could still fair catch.
