Opening Day Thread

Well this performance combined with UVAs has me thinking we may not lose our B10/ACC game by 10+ like i figured we would lol

This Duke team doesn’t seem like they have many shooters.

But boy are Keels and Banchero good

I thought he'd break out this year. Might be a top 20 player in the country. Also, how dumb is CJ Frederick? Didn't play a second in the first half.

I am almost positive he’s still hurt.

Look at UKs bench. There’s no fucking chance he isn’t better than those guys.

The corpse of Davion Mintz especially

Yeah 1-13 won't cut it much in conference play especially in true road games

Davison has been @ Wisconsin for so long that we all remember when @Great_Dayne would hype him up before he got banned

Remember when he said Kobe King would be better than Jaren Jackson Jr? Kobe King is a 5th year senior at Valpo, meanwhile, Jackson Jr is in his 4th NBA season and signed a 4 year, 102 million dollar extension this past off-season. Lmao.

He might be hurt. If not, he made a poor decision.

Made a poor decision either way imo. Starting is better than playing 15 mpg off the bench. He got salty the coaches wanted him to play after he was cleared to play but didnt feel ready . Newsflash kid. Every coaching staff in America is going to want you to play once youre cleared to play lol

Washington lost to Northern Illinois who was picked dead last in the MAC preseason poll

Coupled with Cal's loss to a bad San Diego team (picked 9/10 in the WCC)

I know those are the bottom 2 teams in the Pac 12 but thats rough.

same shit happened last year and it hurt the PAC 12s seeding even though the top 4/5 teams were very good

if i recall correctly advanced metrics just didn't like the Pac-12 teams (even the good ones) last year before the NCAAT.

Apparently how the 11th best team in each conference performs is a deciding factor for seeding. It’s fine, as long as all the deserving teams make it, seeding is largely irrelevant

It was UC San Diego. They were a D2 team in 2019. They joined the Big West after that season. Just a brutal loss. Stanford, Oregon State and Colorado also struggled against awful teams.

I think the ACC probably had the worst day as far as W/L. It could have been really bad for the P12 if Stanford, Colorado and Oregon State didn't win

ACC had it rough because UVA is expected to be one of the better teams and they looked bad. Judging conferences by the worst teams is kind of silly. We all know Nebraska, Cal and Pitt are going to suck. Figuring out the magnitude of suckiness is pointless IMo

I agree that defining what conferences are good based on the bottom of the league, is probably off base. However, the bottom of the league can drag the rest of it down with it. And conversely, it can lift up the rest of the league as well. Just look at the B1G last year. 11 of the 14 teams finished in the top 50 of the NET. And NW and Minn were in the top 100. I get last season was quirky, but PSU best two at large teams OOC, Gophers went undefeated in OOC play and NW went 2-1 OOC with two blowout wins and a single point loss to Pitt(so good metrics wise). That type of stuff just translates over to conference play.

Still alot of OOC games left, so we'll see how it shakes out.

I agree but after watching the last NCAAT, I think we have to have a conversation about whether we're placing too much value on that. Despite really good NET ratings, the Big Ten teams did really poorly in the NCAAT. Likewise, the PAC 12 did very well despite the bottom tier PAC 12 teams performing poorly.

I do think last year was a bit off due to the lack of OOC games. I think with there being a normal amount of OOC games, the seeding won't be so off base.

One thing I learned in 2016 is that margin of victory in these games can be an indicator of how good a team is. In 2016, Wake beat Indiana, LSU and UCLA in OOC and were competitive with Xavier. However, they also struggled to put away teams like UNCG, Coastal Carolina and UMBC. Wake ended up going 2-16 in ACC play that year.

If I'm the ACC, i'm awfully concerned about UVa, GT and Pitt losing to god awful opponents. However, I would also be concerned by Louisville only winning by 12, Clemson winning by 11 and Miami winning by 10. These are teams you need to ass blast by 20+ points.
