Despite the loss in the College Football Playoff, the Ducks were named the national champions by the Wolfe Ratings, a major NCAA selector. However, the program does not officially claim the championship.

I feel like that has definitely happened; wasn't that pretty common in the early 2000's actually? I just can't think of an example and am too lazy to try and dig into 20 year old google data.
