Oregon/Ohio State

So all playoff games are meaningful? Just trying to get your definition. Conference Championship games not meaningful- playoff games are? Is that a fair assessment?

For the Big 10 and SEC just getting to the conference title game you are basically in the playoff regardless, so that actual title game means less by default. Depends on how much you think the BYE matters for how much it still means.

I mean you have to do well enough to get into the CFP so the regular season isnt totally meaningless but the bigger programs can lose 2 games and get in probably 99% of the time.

The CFP games in the end become the games that matter the most by far.

So by your definition Oregon has won a meaningful game - a semifinal playoff game.

winning a conference championship to get a bye is important just not a 3 1/2 week bye. Should be one week.

The CCG's are a meaningful game to any team that must win it to get into the playoffs, and less so if losing won't knock you out.

It's still a big game, but just doesn't have a lot of meaning for winning it now.

We decided big tournament was more important that conference trophies. Those have lost value and we are seeing a decline in non playoff bowls.

Oregon won a few big games this year. They lost the only one they played in that was win or go home. Rust might have been a factor. Maybe nerves, who knows.

I would expect they learn from it and are better prepared the next time they reach the playoffs.

FWIW I wasn't in favor of going to 12 and still would rather have a 4 team playoff even if that meant Oregon was top seed in it. That CCG would have had a lot more meaning if that were the case.

In your opinion there is only one meaningful game per season?
Where did I say that? What is more meaningful…a regular season home game or a playoff game? Easy answer. You would have thought Oregon won the NCG that night they won by 1 pt

I'm guessing the vast majority of the time both participants in the Big 10 and SEC title games will already be locked into the playoffs.

They remain pretty important for the Big 12 and ACC though for that purpose. And for the G5 teams on the cusp

Just confused, all the rusted “blue blood” programs have numerous national championships won just like this.

This is what everyone asked for. This is what YOU asked for. Prove it on the field. Leave no doubt. Eye test and humans voting are garbage. Right? You wanted this.

If this was '97 you still lost your bowl game, badly. No given they would have put Oregon in anyway. But it's not '97. It's no longer '23 where Oregon would have been in the final 4 and Ohio State wouldn't have been in it. Maybe a much easier road for the Ducks. But those days are gone.

Be careful what you wish for.

You can argue that Oregon had the best regular season in collage ball this year. There is no trophy for that.

You can't argue that Ohio State didn't earn and deserve to be called champions. They were the best team at the end of the season.
They need to do it like they do in the NHL to make @OregonDucks feel better.

There's a trophy (President's, maybe?) for having the best regular season record.

You said Oregon has never won a meaningful game. Based on that statement one can only conclude that the National Championship game is the only meaningful game, since Oregon has won a Semifinal Playoff game and multiple Rose Bowls and Conference championships.

Just a long way to go to correct your statement

Nobody takes anyone seriously when they try to claim some mickey mouse national title that was given by some computer system or some other weird shit decades ago

By that definition, Oregon has won a meaningful game. (Semifinals vs Florida St).

We all know that the trolls would have claimed "Oregon can't win a meaningful game" if they had lost to Penn State. Since they won, no one claims it as a meaningful game.

Only viewing games as "meaningful" if Oregon loses them is a sure sign of someone with an agenda.
