Judge Rules Oregon State And Washington State Exclusively Control The Pac-12 Conference

The Pac-12 Conference is officially the Pac-2, thanks to a judge's ruling Tuesday.

The Pac-2 schools then won a temporary restraining order that prohibited future board meetings over the future of the country. That victory became even more comprehensive when a judge ruled that OSU and WSU would become the only voting board members in the Pac-12 moving forward. Functionally, that means the two Pacific Northwest schools are set to take over all revenue, assets and intellectual property controlled by the conference.

Namely that the ruling means the Pac-12 Conference’s financial assets and future revenues would fall under their control. While the 10 schools are leaving in 2024, there are months of revenue from remaining athletic competitions, including basketball, that could be controlled by just two schools.

Worth noting this does nothing to change how revenue is distributed for existing contracts, such as network money from this season.

It will impact disbursements of unallocated funds, such as future NCAA disbursements, and prevent the other members from selling PAC assets.

It gives them possession of the PAC brand and all physical assets and it will be interesting what they do with it. You have to think there is some kind of merger in the future with like the MWC and rebranding as a new PAC coming.
 
Oregon State has a chance to spoil a lot of parties.

And, there is an obligation for them to treat the others fairly. So, they couldn't declare that they PAC CCG is against the two of them.

Yeah, March Madness money is distributed over a 6 year period of time, I think. It may be 4. So if you got money for a share in March Madness in 2022, you get paid in 2023-2029. There will be litigation for sure that the money was earned while in the PAC and they should get it even if distributed later. The lawyers are going to be the winners here, like usual.

Assuming their broadcasting assets have value without Fox or ESPN involved, I think you are right about the merger. So long as they bring in all of another conference, they shouldn't have a problem with that.

They will also lose their P5 status and the tie in with the Rose Bowl. No way those survive this.

P5 status is gone anyway. It’s the P2 SEC & B1G, and T2 (tier 2 or come up with a better name I just made that up) ACC & B12 and then G5 which we are going to assume a merger between PAC and MWC into one new PAC.

There just isn’t a P5 anymore.

There is a P4. The CFP has all but made that official by changing from 6+6 to 5+7.

Maybe ... look, I get it's the SEC and the B1G. But the ACC has FSU, Clemson, maybe Miami if they keep up the NIL. They will have some years where they get 2 in the CFP and have a shot at winning it.

The B12, not so much. Utah may be their best team. But AZ is play well this year, too. Baylor gets good every now and again, and TCU has been there.

So, yeah, the SEC and B1G will dominate, but the other 2 are way better than the G5 level.
 
back to prior conversations. if they want to rebuild should they go for anyone who wants to join? should they go after "brands" of the MWC?
should they go after the schools that are named for the cities they are in or the states? always seemed like while city schools like Cinicinati, boise state, fresno state can be good, they get a bad rap for not being state institutions
