How many top offensive linemen were in those classes. USC needs some of those big ol' corn fed type linemen, ain't a lot of those in Cali.



These are kids...they want the travel. It's like some of you think they're just flying by the seat of their pants on this. I'm sure those things are all being figured out right now, if they weren't already. This isn't something that was just decided on a whim. They have likely been working on this since shortly after Bohn was hired.



That's because they've sucked. Odds are that we will be playing at least 1 and maybe 2 of them every year. I remember some pretty good size traveling groups when Pete Carroll was the coach.

The midwest states that produce those OL(mostly Michigan, PA and Ohio), are unlikely to go to USC as is IMO. Very rarely have Midwest kids gone out west. Especially OL. Some have gone down South, but even then, that's still very rare. Maybe that'll change with them joining the B1G, but I'd be skeptical USC is now all of the sudden going to see an influx of 4/5 stars from the midwest or east coast. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit to it.

I'm sure they've thought about the travel aspect of it. As a hypothetical fan/player, I wouldn't want to do that. Just imagine this if you're USC:

That's an actual B1G basketball schedule for a B1G school in January. I'm sure the league will try and make it so you're not making 3 east coast trips a month, but they might not be able too. In terms of flying that's like approximately 27-28 hours.

Compare that to USC's January schedule of:

12/30 @ Washington
1/1 @ Wazzu
1/5 @ UCLA
1/12 home vs. Colorado
1/14 home vs. Utah
1/19 @ AZ
1/21 @ ASU
1/26 home vs. USC

That's like approximately 8 hours of flying. That's 20 hours a month. That's a pretty big difference. And February would be much of the same. I'm not saying anything in regards to cost, because they'll be able to afford it with the influx of money, but that's going to take a toll on the athletes IMO. It's one thing if you're flying to Maui or the Bahamas for an early-season tournament, but there's nothing glamorous about flying into College Park, Happy Valley, or Piscataway. As someone who's been to all 3.

And very rarely were they going to be playing in the Midwest with USC playing in the PAC. USC won't be playing in the PAC anymore. That changes things considerably.

It's not going to "take a toll" on the athletes. These are kids with NBA dreams, the NBA plays twice as many games and does far more traveling. If anything, at least for kids with a shot at making it, it will help prepare them for that.

Which is what that idiot Larry Scott expected you to do.

Ultimately, botching the PAC Network might have been the biggest blunder. Had that been handled correctly, they may have been able to close the gap in what they were getting from tv deals compared to the B1G and the SEC. I don't know if that would have changed USC's mind, they have a list of reasons beyond money that they were unhappy with the PAC about...but it would have been a step in the right direction.

I have the PAC Network, but even with having it, there are games I can't watch because the Network is divided into regions and I'm not paying extra to, for example, watch Wazzu vs. Oregon St.

Yes, tOSU has proven they can pull in West coast recruits, and they don't play out there every year. Kids out west want to go to tOSU. They've pulled 13 West Coast kids since 2019. USC has gotten two kids from MD since 2019. Big difference.

I was of the same opinion at one time but living in WV and hearing from players, coaches and reading the stories (this one from 2019 WVU joined B12 in 2012) have changed my mind. Yes the youngsters recover quickly but they are not robots AND the practice schedules/prep times are affected as well.
Football is not as big of an issue, not as many games but basketball? IMO no question it’s harder on em.

When USC was rolling under Pete Carroll, they had no problem recruiting kids from all over the country. If they continue winning with Lincoln Riley, they will have no problem pulling kids from all over the country and playing in the B1G will only increase that.

And what have I said that is wrong about the travel? I brought up a current B1G schedule and compared that to the current USC schedule. If I missed a memo that said they aren't going to be playing Rutgers, PSU, MD, and OSU in bball and Olympic Sports, I apologize. I'd be willing to see where any of my information has been debunked, please feel free to share.
