GAME Playoff Selection Show thread (11 am cst ESPN)

I’m all for the auto bids. Guaranteeing them byes is stupid. FWIW, I think the committee got it right. My problem is with the structure of the playoff

Autobids only make sense if conferences & schedules are balanced. They're not. They'll go away pretty fast.

Saban has been consistent about this for a while. He got unnecessary hate too. He begged for 9 conference games and to eliminate the FCS November games but everytime it got voted on he was the only SEC coach that voted in favor of it.

But yet he is the one that always got the hate
Oh no he was consistent until we got rid of divisions and he found out his 3 permanent teams would be Tenn, LSU and Auburn then he did 180 and cried like a bitch. Auburn is the only team that has perfect voting record for 9 conference games.

I gotta push back that they don’t matter

It got ASU and Clemson into the dance

It got Oregon, Georgia, Boise, and ASU a first round bye. Winning 3 games is easier than 4.

All four P4 CCG’s were being played for something meaningful
Yeah, all four got rewarded with the bye via ccg. And no team really got punished for playing well but losing their ccg. That should further incentivize both in the future.

Meh. I’m fine with it. It’s the only part of the invitational that leaves out bias and has a defined way of earning it.

There is no good structure with 130+ teams and a short schedule.

Aggie was ranked when we played them.

We knocked them out of the rankings. That should count for something.

Gameday rankings are worthless.
As are some people's opinions.

And another thing. We scheduled the defending national champion Michigan.

That was supposed a quality OOC game for Texas. Didn't expect them to be as good this year but everyone thought they'd at least be ranked.

Can we get a refund?

The committee doesnt care about gameday rankings

IMO BSU doesn’t deserve a first round bye, but according to the way it was set up, we got it. just happy to get a chance.

Yep. According to the way it’s currently set up if you look at the results, they placed Boise, ASU, and Clemson all correctly at 3, 4, and 12.

Oregon is clearly the best team but as we all know things don’t always go to plan in a tournament format. What a weird season it’s been. There’s a lot of mediocrity behind them and teams 2 through 12 all have their own set of issues. If Oregon doesn’t win it, it’s anyone else’s for the taking.

Oregon managed to avoid a loss but I wouldn’t say they are clearly above the other realistic possible title teams.

They hung on by 1 to beat Ryan Day at home and almost let James Franklin come back on them in the B1G title game.

I just want to know how bama barely misses the playoff and then ends up playing a 7 win Michigan team in a bowl game?
Not to worry, them SEC boys are quick to opt out if not in the playoffs. bama might be good just to field a team.

Key words are avoid & almost. No other team can say that.
