GAME Portland State @ 15 (soon to be 1) Oregon

Deposit the check whenever you want Portland state LOL

So much excitement for beating a shitty FCS opponent

Oregon still throwing it a bunch up 50 points against an FCS opponent. Pathetic

Oregon might score 100 points today.

lol @these announcers..."it was the most perfect season opening win I've ever seen".

Dude, it was against a bad FCS team.

No way, PSU is going for a Natty on a Platter.

Oregon's like, real good against Portland State. They just need a team who provides the same challenge as they gave Georgia to open last year.

You posted more in this thread than your own teams game thread. Your obsession and jealousy shows.

I was at my team's game, numbnuts. I'd say sorry your fan base makes it so easy to pop in and shit all over, but I'm not.

Funny how washington fans wanna come in and give shit about oregon beating an FCS team when its only been 2 years since they lost to an FCS team

Obviously this game was a major mismatch and isn't going to tell us a whole lot about the quality of the team. That goes without saying (even though many people like to pop in this thread and say it anyways). However, you can always have some positive and negative takeaways by seeing your team in action. You just have to look a little deeper than the final score and box score.

A couple positives:
- Ty Thompson looked more comfortable than I've ever seen him at Oregon. That was good to see, even if the quality of opponent wasn't there.
- The young RBs look very good. Dowdell and James are physical runners who have good speed to compliment that. Limar also did a great job catching the ball out of the backfield. He looks like a very promising 3rd down back.
- After the 2nd and 3rd drive, the defense made some adjustments and shut down PSU's running game.

While the starting offense overwhelmed Portland State, that really showed me nothing. If you didn't think Bo, Bucky, Franklin, Bryant, etc were going to overwhelm Portland State early and often, I don't know what to tell you.

A couple of negatives:
- The defense was sloppy early. They gave up some big plays because they weren't ready to stop the QB run. It's even worse when you realize that was the obvious scout of Portland State coming into the game. The blame has to fall on Lanning and Tosh for that. It's definitely a concern because those two didn't do a very good job with the defensive game plans last year and I'm concerned this could be a reoccurring issue. I gave them some credit earlier as they did make the adjustments later and shut Portland State down.
- Despite giving up only like 60 yards passing, there were some big plays to be made out there. The Portland State QB just missed on a lot of them. The passing defense was really bad last year and I saw some reasons to be concerned again. They were able to get some pass rush yesterday but I'm more interested to see what the pass rush looks like against Texas Tech. TT likes to throw the ball around the field and should be a decent test for Oregon.
