Post some of your favorite opening lines to songs

Here from the king's mountain view
Here from the wild dream come true
Feast like a sultan, I do
On treasures and flesh never few

Tool - “Jambi”

I must've dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They're moving into the street
Now did you read the news today?
They say the danger's gone away
But I can see the fires still alight
They're burning into the night

Genesis - “Land of Confusion”

Genesis - “Land of Confusion”
Love Genesis, but I'm a huge fan of their old stuff:

The path is clear
Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen
Though many times they've seen the way to leave

Firth of Fifth ~ Genesis

Good times gone, and ya missed em.
What’s gone wrong, in ya system?
Things they bounce, like a Spaulding
What’d you think, did you miss yer calling?

Gratitude - Adam Horovitz

Leroy, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin' days were through
Sunk-in eyes and full of sighs
Tell no lies, you get wise
I tell you now, we're gonna pull you through
There's only one thing left that we can do

We gotta get you a woman
It's like nothin' else to make you feel sure you're alive
We gotta get you a woman
We better get walkin', we're wastin' time talkin' now

Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields

Sold in market down in New Orleans

I like your pants around your feet- Figured you out, Nickelback

Even a well lit place, can hide salvation- Starset, It Has Begun

Hello darkness my old friend- Sound of Silence

My friends got a girlfriend and he hates that bitch- Why Don't You Get a Job, The Offspring

Midnight Special:

Well, you wake up in the mornin'
You hear the work bell ring
And they march you to the table
You see the same old thing
Ain't no food upon the table
And no pork up in the pan
But you better not complain, boy
You get in trouble with the man

“I’m a rolling stone, all alone and lost
For this life of sin, I have paid the cost
When I pass by, all the people say
Just another guy on the Lost Highway”

Lost Highway- Hank Williams Sr

“I’m a high straight in Plainview
A side bet in Idalu and a fresh deck in New Deal
Yeah some call me high hand and some call me low hand
But I’m holdin what I am, the wheel”

Amarillo Highway- Terry Allen

The wheel is an ace to 5 straight FTR

Opening lines doesn't do this song justice. This is a classic.

High Cost of Living -Jamey Johnson

I was just a normal guy
Life was just a nine to five
With bills and pressure piled-up to the sky
She never asked, she knew I'd bewen
Hangin' with my wilder friends
Lookin' for some other way to fly

Three days straight was no big feat
To get by on no food or sleep
And crazy was becoming my new normal
I'd pass out on the bedroom floor
Sleep right through the calm before the storm

My life was just an old routine
Every day the same damn thing
I couldn't even tell I was alive
I tell you, the high cost of livin'
Ain't nothing like the cost of livin' high

That southern Baptist parking lot
Was where I'd go to smoke my pot
And sit there in my pickup truck and pray
And starin' at that giant cross
Just reminded me that I was lost
And it just never seemed to point the way

As soon as Jesus turned his back
I'd found my way across the track
Lookin' just to score another deal
With my back against that damn eight ball
I didn't have to think or talk or feel

My life was just an old routine
Every day the same damn thing
I couldn't even tell I was alive
I tell you, the high cost of livin'
Ain't nothing like the cost of livin' high

My whole life went through my head
Layin' in that motel bed
Watchin' as the cops kicked in the door
I had a job and a piece of land
My sweet wife was my best friend
But I traded that for cocaine and a whore

With my new found sobriety
I've got the time to sit and think
Of all the things I had and threw away
This prison is much colder
Than that one that I was locked-up in just yesterday

My life is just an old routine
Every day the same damn thing
Hell, I can't even tell if I'm alive
I tell you, the high cost of livin'
Ain't nothing like the cost of livin' high
I tell you, the high cost of livin'
Ain't nothing like the cost of livin' high

Just leave that stuff alone

That’s one of my favorite songs. I’ve seen him in concert numerous times. It’s a shame he knocked his head on some ice and can’t really write new songs anymore, because he wrote a lot of great songs in a relatively short amount of time

IMHO Jamey's best performance was a cover of Two out of Three Aint Bad on Imus. Tell me that the guitar player aint on meth, I dare you.

Lost Highway- Hank Williams Sr
It’s never been said to my knowledge, but you can’t convince me this song wasn’t the inspiration for “Highway to Hell”

Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine...

I ain't a killer, but don't push me.
Revenge is like the sweetest joy next to gettin' pussy.

"Hail Mary" by 2Pac

It kills me not to know this
But I've all but just forgotten
What the color of her eyes were
And her scars or how she got them
As the telling signs of age rain down
A single tear is dropping
Through the valleys of an aging face
That this world has forgooooootten...
