Guess I'm in the minority of wanting to watch from home.Whatever the bar serves
It isn't wasting it if it's something you derive enjoyment from. Nearly everyone could cut back on some stuff, but if you enjoy going out to eat....go out to eat. Just do it within reason.I went through our budget few years back and set some items we need to cut back on
we still waste a lot of money
I prepare whatever I'd normally prepare on a weekend when I'm at home without football. Probably leftovers or sandwiches for lunch and a nice meal at supper (unless the Vikings are playing the afternoon game). To drive content and get the fatty talk going, what foods do you prepare during football season on the weekends?

I prefer at home as well, but not afraid to go to bar.Guess I'm in the minority of wanting to watch from home.

Liking that idea, though we watch more CFB than NFL due to the games in our area.I prepare whatever I'd normally prepare on a weekend when I'm at home without football. Probably leftovers or sandwiches for lunch and a nice meal at supper (unless the Vikings are playing the afternoon game).
Now if we are talking tailgating, I usually try to line up something that matches whatever team we are playing. New Orleans might be a seafood boil. New England, we grill lobster. Green Bay it's brats. Dallas or Houston is probably BBQ. Buffalo is wings. Chicago is prison meals. And sometimes we just go the simple route with burgers/dogs.
We go big a few times a year at restaurants and eat out for basically the entire week or so our kids are gone each summer. Otherwise, it's once a week, sometimes twice....and then eat at home the rest of the time.I agree with overall sentiment
The idea should transfer pretty easily. Frankly, we don't get to watch much football other than Vikings games anymore because of the kid's activities. So we just roll with our normal stuff unless we are tailgating.Liking that idea, though we watch more CFB than NFL due to the games in our area.
Same. Generally speaking we can do anything we want, but not everything we want so it's more or less setting prioritiesWe go big a few times a year at restaurants and eat out for basically the entire week or so our kids are gone each summer. Otherwise, it's once a week, sometimes twice....and then eat at home the rest of the time.
Do we need season tickets to the Twins? No. Do we enjoy going to the games and giving whatever tickets we don't use to our friends? Absolutely. Do we need to go on vacation? No. But we enjoy it. I'd rather have enjoy the 30-40 working years than retire in my 60's and have a boatload of money, but much less energy than I do now. (Not to mention exposing our kids to other areas.)
That doesn't mean we don't try to budget, but I'm not going to have a hardline budget that doesn't afford us the ability to go out to eat if we've already hit that monthly budget.

it can be fun if everyone is paying attention, can also be distractingWatching a game that I actually care about at a bar is probs the WOAT decision
I always find it way too distracting. Much rather just be on my couch mainlining whatever I'm drinking. Maybe cook some buffalo chicken dip. And basically don't get up for 9+ hours except to piss.it can be fun if everyone is paying attention, can also be distracting
When's the right weekend to break it out? Wait on the weather? I'm always down for chilli while others aren't.chilli
