QB Sanders has a Rolls Royce.

I kind of agree, but I think there will be about 15-25 good teams that will cycle every few years to provide 5-10 good teams in any given year.

SEC:
UGA
Bama
LSU
Texas
OU
Auburn
UF
Tenn
ATM

B1G:
tOSU
UM
PSU
USC
Ore
Washington
Wisky
UCLA

B12:
KSU
Utah
Baylor
OSU
BYU

ACC:
Clemson
FSU
Miami

ND

That's 25:

UCLA, Wisky, and all the B12 teams are stretches. So you could say 18-20, then another 10 or so that could move in ... UNC, Louisville, KSU, Ole Miss ... that type of team.

Out of those, I hope that we get some annual or cyclical parity that would give you 5-10 good teams each year in the CFP.

This year is really interesting as no team is in that Elite tier yet. You would expect that to come from Bama, UGA, LSU, tSOU, UM, Clemson, or OU, based on past years. But none of them appear Elite ... yet. You have UDub, FSU, Texas making noise. A lot of teams breaking in new QBs. We'll see what happens in the next month, but right now you have a lot of good teams, but no team that you just look at and say they would blow everyone out.

Yeah, I forget which show I saw it on yesterday, but on one of them, they were talking about how this year there are a good 10-12 teams who can make a legit claim that they are playoff contenders as opposed to the usual 5-8.

I think that is part of the "good" with NIL and the transfer portal. If a school can put together a decent NIL collective and can provide the portal kids an opportunity to play right away...they can get access to players they otherwise wouldn't.

So far we are seeing the following models:

- Build primarily with high school recruits, supplement with transfers - 25 HS/5 transfers
- Build with both - 15-20 HS/15-20 transfers
- Build primarily with transfers, presumably to go to more of a mix once the roster is turned over

Success will come from the top 2. I still think most winning will happen with the top option - that's the best way to build culture and I am convinced that is what wins games.

The real interesting aspect of this will be what happens when you go to 12 CFP teams. Then a single loss doesn't eliminate a team that might get better as the year goes on, get some injured players back, etc.

I agree. Probably the 2 biggest users of the portal have been USC last year and Colorado this year. Both had/have similar issues. Both were able to significantly improve their team, but it was hard to have depth and you really can only fix 1 side of the ball at a time, so both defenses suffered. USC used the portal this year to shore up the defense and so far, it looks better than last year (not a high bar lol). I'd expect Colorado will do similar next year.

The goal going forward, at least for USC, is to fill mostly through recruiting and using the portal like free agency and fill holes/add depth.

Yep, I think it will help keep fans engaged because of that. My biggest issue with the current system has been that a team that drops a game or 2, especially early, might be one of the best teams in the country by the end of the season, but doesn't get a chance to show it.

I'm fine with NIL.

The portal could die a painful death today and I wouldn't miss it one bit.

I'm fine with both.

But I think there needs to be some limits on the portal. Seems like some of these kids want to transfer every year.

They've made it clear that you can only hit the portal for free 1 time. Look at what has happened at UNC.

With one transfer, that will slow down the movement. You better make the right choice or graduate when you can transfer all you want.
