Question for those criticizing the SEC for the 8-game schedule

This. More conf games means more losses for conference teams. ez maf

Also, conference opponents tend to be more familiar with each other's strengths and weaknesses. Most programs also have bogey opponents within conference that tend to give them fits even though they are normally not as good as even a decent OOC opponent on paper.

The bowl system is dumb and well overdue for a change. But even though the only Bowls that matter these days are the CFP, if you can make your conference look stronger overall by eliminating guaranteed losses, then it enhances your conf champion's (and sometimes runner up in the current format) chances of getting in the CFP.
i get why they do it but again..as for me.. I just want the 9th game to ensure we play everyone in the conference home/away within 4 seasons.

The BiG plays 9 games but the favorite out of the West division is due to seeing who avoids playing tosu in any given year. I get it.. I just want 9 conference games

I get it too. Frankly, the thing the SEC does that always makes the least sense to me is the mid season cupcake. I hate cupcake games in general, but to see one right before rivalry week just makes it all the more upsetting.

:dingdingding: Can we get you to be the CFP Czar?

That's the one thing I find isn't a big deal. I get your argument that the 9th IC game guarantees 8 more conference losses ... that's math. But the fact that they play the 11th week cupcake ... who cares when you play it. You guys have a longer pre-season while the SEC is cranking up the IC schedule earlier so they have room in the 11th and 12th week for OOC games. No one seems to mind that we play the OOC rivalry games in week 12 when no other conference does that.

its unnatural, and damnit it must be stopped!

and further, since every other major conference is in mid-season schedule mode, it guarantees that almost every game is vs a very weak opponent. Might as well have a bye week.

Exactly, it is a bye week. FWIW, I suspect that with the new divisionless setup, contract with ESPN, and OU and TX coming in, that they will always have a couple elite games that week. Probably give those teams the cupcake bye in week 10.

Based on rumors that are coming out, here is how our schedule is shaking out for next year:

nUF, AU, @KY / @Bama, @UT, UTjr, MSU, @OM / Clemson, GaTech, 1 cupcake, 1 decent G5

For those doing the bitching, what's your team's record playing that creampuff, 8-game schedule?

Recall that I am for a 9 game IC schedule, but the idea that our 8-game schedule is easy is absurd.

Is this 2023 or 2024 season?

2024, we have an easy schedule for 2023 - the OU game was canceled. We get Ole Miss from the West. Auburn under 1st year coach. We have to go to UTjr. UF is down. We get USCjr in Athens. We are @Ky. Who knows how good any of those teams will be, but it is presumed not all that good.

I'll play. Iowa is 7-8 vs the FBS opponents.

Clemson 0-0

Tennessee Tech - Not sure but the only FCS team Iowa has lost to is North Dakota State

Florida - Florida 3-1

UMass ‐ 0-0

Georgia Tech - Iowa 1-0

Auburn - 0-0

Mississippi State - Iowa 1-0

No sweat. Your SOS will still be high regardless of how good those teams are.

I think Iowa needs to start scheduling more SEC teams. Most of them were in SEC country. There was really only 2 that wasn't. Iowa can play 9 B1G, Iowa State, SEC, and one midmajor/SEC.

Now you’re talkin’. Check out Purdue’s OOC schedule. Their schedule is what a P5 OOC should look like IMO.

With Texas coming in, we have to align on who is “UT”.
UT is The University of Tennessee. It precedes The University of Texas. You may refer to them as “UTx” or “Texas.”
