Not a lot of action on these hockey threads, but in case any of you older fellas missed it, 2 time Stanley Cup Champion Fred Stanfield passed a few days ago at the age of 77. He was 77 years old and I haven't been able to find a cause of death.

He started his NHL career in Chicago became a Bruins in the trade that brought Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge and him to Boston in exchange for goalie Jack Norris, defenseman Gilles Marotte and forward Pit Martin. Martin was a solid player, but the other two didn't accomplish much and the trade is widely regarded as one of the greatest trade heists in NHL history. Stanfield became a solid two way 2nd line center for the Bruins while Esposito and Hodge were teaming up with Wayne Cashman to form the most prolific scoring line of the day.

Very sad news for this long time Bruins fan for sure.

Sad day for sure. He was one of the early 70s squad!

Went in the Phil Esposito trade from Chicago. Chicago got hosed on that trade.

Key member of those Bruins power plays on the point beside Orr..
