the only time i was on his twitter feed, it was filled with politics so I bailed

sometimes, i forget he exists. I rarely watch the MLBN and when I do, he's never on it.

He's not really posted politics for a few years (but yeah when he was it was cringe). It's just him trying to say one thing and wandering into some weird anecdote from 50 years ago

Hey look, baseball writers deepthroating Jeter again

Jeter above Pujols, LOL

Based on career WAR, Hall of Fame status, peak performance and overall contributions to the game,

Yeah, it's not like Pujols had more career WAR in his first nine seasons than Jeter's entire career or anything. Jeter's highest WAR in a season was 8.0, which while impressive would be the eighth best of Pujols' career. Ripken also has more than 20 WAR over Jeter, but sure let's rank him 66th and Jeter in the top 30. Larkin's barely behind Jeter in WAR and barely cracks the top 100. Rofl.

holy shit this list is terrible. Ott's 15th all-time in WAR and comes at 62nd? A fucking relief pitcher at 31st? Eddie Collins 82nd? Rose 34th? Ichiro at 46? Speaker at 36 seems very low. And I love Ortiz, but I don't think he's a top 100 player. I think Harper's on a HOF path but he doesn't belong anywhere near the top 100 right now. Beltre barely cracks the top 100. There seems to be a lot of narrative and recency bias involved in this list.

I unfollowed just about the entire SF Giants beat reporters because of this same thing. I don’t care what a bunch of SF sniveling liberals think about politics. GTFO my feeds!

The woke LA sportswriters were great follows during the NLCS. The virtue signaling was beautiful. “We might be losing but at least our fans don’t eat at Waffle House and do the tomahawk chop”

Jeter above Joe Morgan! Pujols plays a different position with a different skill set, you can at least twist and turn and make some kind of "apples are better than oranges" argument.

Griffey at #13 is the other one that strikes me as obviously too high but there are a ton of smaller mistakes too. Too much bias in favour of recent players.

Not exactly the same thing….but kind of….

I always think of Bill Burr on Conan. About the 1:00 mark is the part I always think of. “I’m watching a game….there is a time and a place”

Point being….we watch sports to escape this shit. I want to hear what a sports writer says about social issues as much as I want to hear a sociologists take on the DH or NFL OT rules. GTFO.

Recency bias and sports go like peanut butter and chocolate…..

The funny thing is that one of the specific names that we mentioned is still active! But I think that in a way this is the same phenomenon at work... Jeter is a "new" HoFer while Pujols is an "old" player.

Stanhope talked about this too I recall, how he didn't like being made to think for 3+ hours on a weekend about women tragically dying because they gotta wear pink gloves and use pink tape
