Season coming, should be a good one with the 5th years, and transfers, and reclassifications.

Opinions of the realignment? I thought it could have been disastrous for college basketball if the Big 12 somehow was forced to disband.

The way it worked out...

Bad for college football, neutral for college basketball, bad for Gonzaga, horrible for the AAC.

I don't care how many teams the SEC adds, they're always a football conference, so they won't dominate bids year after year. ACC is still the best league to me.

Big 12 lost a little but not too much, Kansas really lucked out.

I think parity survives and bids amongst the Big 6 conferences will vary year from year.

Sucks for Gonzaga to lose BYU, but their recruiting is so through the roof right now, I don't think it matters.

AAC was making strides over the past few years and they've just been raped, losing 4 of their best programs.

I think it's pretty much a wash except for the AAC and WCC. Both those leagues took a huge hit. Losing UT and OU is obviously a big loss, but Houston and Cincy are probably historically better programs. BYU has been consistent for the last couple decades so that's a good addition. UCF doesn't really move the needle and will most likely be a bottom of the league type of team. Big 12 should still be a top 3 league.

The ACC will turn into the old CUSA with Memphis running that league. Unless Temple gets back to prominence, but they haven't been the same since Chaney left. Honestly, probably think the MVC is better positioned moving forward.

A couple things I can’t wait to see:

1) What does Wichita State do? Could they go back to the MVC? Is the Big East realistic at all? I guess they could stay in the AAC but this ship seems like it’s sinking.

2) Does Gonzaga finally leave the WCC? If they join the MWC, could the MWC make a push for Wichita?

3) Does the increased SEC revenue start to help the SECs basketball depth? I think it already has to an extent.

SEC basketball has been improving steadily for the last decade. You’ve got programs like Auburn, Alabama and Tenn making noise that have been quiet for years.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see two SEC teams in the final four in the near future.

The BE is a possibility, but Temple makes more sense.

I'd rather see them return to the MVC. My feeling is they are going to stay where they are.

Temple would make some sense but there are two problems:

1) Does the Big East really want Temple? They haven't been a great program since Chaney retired.

2) Does Temple want to give up AAC football? I guess they could go Independent but that's a death sentence (see UConn).

i'm guessing #2 is probably the biggest obstacle and i also highly doubt that Villanova would want to be conference mates w/ Temple.

if Temple wanted to give up AAC football, then they probably would have left to back to the A-10 by now

fwiw, Dunphy took them to 8 NCAATs in 13 years and I think the move to the AAC hurt Temple more than anyone else. not great, but still a credit to any major league. i think McKie is going to suck tbh

Football pays the bills and generates the most revenue.

What UConn did was insane and I don’t see any other school ever following that poor decision.

Honestly Temple should join the MVC if theyre considering keaving the AAC. That may bring Wichita and Memphis too

Now that would make the MVC a high major league in my opinion

They honestly might be able to break even, if not make more with their current set up. They were only slated to generate just north of 7 million in tv money with their AAC agreement. By joining the Big East they will receive 4.5 million in tv money. Add in the 500K they are receiving from CBSSN to host their home football games, and you're only looking at a 2 million dollar loss. But they can supplement that loss by going on the road for buy games. For instance, Clemson is giving them 1.8 million to play them later this season. The Big East brand still carries a huge weight with tv networks. IF Temple could get a Big East invite it might be worth looking into. I'm just now sure that invite would ever come.

Sounds like to me they left 2.5 million on the table and having to take a beating to make up the rest.

Have no idea what to expect out of Ohio State this season. Not really in CBB mode yet. Hopefully Kevin Kruger will be successful at UNLV.

They were already taking a beating before going independent. They were 3-31 in the AAC prior to leaving. In terms of tv revenue they did leave 2.5 million on the table, but because of them being in the AAC, their basketball program had become stale and their fans lost interest. By scheduling buy games, and and having fan interest back for basketball, they will be better off in the long run. If I was a fan of UConn for both sports, I'd be happy with the move. What they originally joined in the old Big East it was obviously never coming back, and therefore, they were never going to get the type of tv money the Old Big East would have gotten had they stayed together(probably not much in today's landscape, but more than what the AAC would be). There are literally no teams still remaining from the conference they joined.

Loyola to the A10 for 22-23

That's a great addition, obviously. Somewhat surprising given Belmont was set to join. Wonder if that means Murray St to the MVC is now a sure thing.

Norlander is reporting Murray State, UT Arlington and UMKC

Shocker and that sucks.

Love the MVC, they've really lost too many programs to be what it once was.

Early to mid 2000's was some really great basketball. Creighton, UNI, Wichita State, Southern Illinois. Arch Madness was always one of them best conference tournaments.
