US Air Force officer and test pilot Chuck Yeager, known as "the fastest man alive," has died at the age of 97.

Yeager broke the sound barrier when he tested the X-1 in October 1947, although the feat was not announced to the public until 1948.

good long, successful life. RIP Chuck

hey @Guy Incognito did the Deadpool carry over to here?

Now there was a bad ass of a man. RIP.

R.I.P. to an American hero.

Curse you 2020

Again

Very sad. 97 year olds die but I didn't think the reaper was ever going to catch up to Chuck.

On another note I'm a little worried because I've heard that these things come in threes, After losing Walter Williams and Dick Allen are we now going to discover at Chuck's service that he was in fact a big black guy from Pennsylvania who wore glasses, thus completing the trio?

RIP Chuck thank you for your service

I never look that closely at the trio...all that matters is 3 famous people.

no idea who Walter Williams is though

What a man and what a life. Got to meet him once back in the 90's, dude was an amazing person and a great storyteller.

Guess we will be hearing soon about more lawsuits over his money, from his asshole kids.

Got to admit this was a shock to me. I thought he died years ago. Guess who else is still alive?

Bob Dole! He first ran for president back in 1976....44 years ago!

RIP, General. They don’t make em like him anymore.

Very sad news.

I had watched "The Right Stuff" over the weekend for the first time in ages.

I'd never seen it all the way through before. Missed it in the theater, and being over 3 hours long, I'd only watched parts of it at a time.

Yeager was a key part of that movie even though he wasn't one of the Mercury astronauts.
