RIP Doyle Brunson

And back when poker was really the wild, Wild West back when Brunson and Slim were young, cheating was a common practice.

I think both more than proved their skill in well regulated games though, and Brunson was pretty much the only older player that was a winning player in modern mixed games. Doyle being able to evolve with the game, even into his 80’s is what ranks him among the best ever.

As far as Chip Reese, he was significantly younger than Brunson and Slim. I’ve never heard of him cheating, but I have heard that he turned a blind eye to cheating in card games and rooms he was in charge of.

But he’s my pick for the poker GOAT. The high IQ of a Stu Ungar, but with the self control to not blow all his winnings on horse races and drugs
