RIP John Madden

He'd been out of the public eye for the last several years so you're probably not alone in thinking that. Watching the All Madden documentary that Fox aired on Christmas was the first I've seen him on TV in quite awhile. In a way, that documentary was good timing. He got to sit down and watch all these people sing his praises and say how much he meant to them right before he passed.

The timing makes you wonder though.
The man was the best ! If him and Pat were calling your teams game that week by god it was important game.
His attraction to Favre ( sorry Aikman fans he really loved Brett)
He was the guy you wanted to hear calling Super Bowl games

RIP even people who know nothing of football know Madden's name

Son of a bitch that is Randall Cunningham they are wheeling off and I lost a hot Madden game just that way in college once. I was pissed as I didn't even know the ambulance thing existed in the game. I was in the lead and killing it with Cunningham and in one second I was a dead man walking. Honestly, I'm still pissed about it.

What a leap in video game football that was. Before that this was all I remember….

And trust me, I played the hell out of this. And then Madden changed it all. The ambulance was always a fun touch. You wanted to injure a player just to see the ambulance come on and run others over. Lol

Just watched the All Madden doc. There was too much going on Christmas Day to watch it.

And….it just felt like so much more of a thing to watch with his passing right on top of it.

Simply….it is amazing. They asked 38 people to interview, and got 38 yeses (including LT, who never does interviews). Belicheck was slotted for 20 minutes of interview and went 20 more. Belicheck talked about something/someone for 40 minutes!!!

You know…..he was starting to get long in the tooth in the years before he retired. Much like anyone great the tides began turning. The Favre love was always way too over the top. It was the right time for an impressionist like Caliendo to start going him.

To go back now to when he owned the game was a great ride. Hell, even the annoying ass old commercials were great to see again.

We were so comfortable with Madden that even the "long in the tooth" final years were endearing.

Me too but I think Brett Favre is one of the top five most overrated athletes of our lifetime.
I feel like there was a time he was appropriately rated. The problem was that as his skills and talent came off their peak the rating did not.

I woke up to this with the 4th and 26 on playoff game when he came in with game and season on the line and threw a pop up to the Eagles secondary.

It was from around that time forward where hero ball started failing him a lot more than I’m the past.

And maybe that’s the thing with Madden. Up to that point he called it how he saw it. An amazing player was just that. As that started to decline he called it like he saw it.

With Favre he never came off it. It was just weird coming from Madden.

Easiest pick of Dawkins life.

Fell down a rabbit hole of watching/listening to some old Madden songs on their respective main menus and man those games into the mid-2000s were good as fuck. Kind of ironic actually that not long after he retired the franchise went down the shitter.

I know he didn't have much to do with that, but legend still.
playing Madden '03 for hours as a kid is what got me into football
