All of this coming from Pasadena Now, which recently obtained a letter to Association members from Tournament of Roses President Amy Wainscott, who said UCLA’s decision to join the Big Ten took the Tournament by surprise.

“This conference realignment was unexpected by the majority of the college football world, including ourselves, and we’ve been working with our conference partners to figure out what this means for the Rose Bowl Game,” Wainscott said in the letter.

Wainscott admitted in the letter that the Tournament may need to adjust sooner rather than later.

“While the future is somewhat uncertain, we know we must be flexible and open to changes as we work to ensure that the tradition of the Rose Bowl Game will continue into the future of college football,” Wainscott said.

I don't see the issue.

With or without a Big 10/PAC matchup, they'll still be a NY6 bowl and in rotation for the CFP.

They're not gonna kick UCLA out from Sept, Oct, Nov.
I think this means the annual game between the PAC and B1G is under discussion and the Rose Bowl may open up to make sure they get the highest ranked teams possible. This has nothing to do with UCLA or the actual facility just the Rose Bowl committee.

Yeah, odds are the PAC, one of its bowl partners is going to be gone. What do you do if you have a bowl that pitts the B1G v. PAC and the PAC no longer exists?

Yeah. I get that.

It's already been contaminated anyway when the Rose Bowl hosts the CFP, no?

That's why the Big 10 and PAC 10 refused to join the Bowl Alliance and Bowl Coalition back in the 90's. They didn't want to give up their potentially easy opponent (i.e. #8 Washington St in 1997) in the Rose Bowl.

Rose Bowl deserves a MWC vs AAC annual matchup

the most over-rated event in sports. Joey Chestnut dominating fatties every year>>>>>Rose Bowl

It really is odd how people's thoughts on it are so different.

- The PAC and B1G just slobber all over it ... the sunset, the pageantry. Blah, blah, blah.
- In the south, it's time to get a nap before the Sugar Bowls starts and we get some non-sissy teams playing.
- Also in the south I think we just got tired of that game getting shoved down our throats, a lot like those not in the south hate the ESPN/SEC getting crammed down their throats.

All that said, I really did enjoy UGA in the Rose Bowl. And I've always liked the USC Dance Girls and UCLA dancers wiggling their asses.

I am really starting to wonder with the SEC and the B1G going all for the money if they will start telling the bowls that their influence is waning. We will know when we find out if the quarter-finals are in home stadiums or in bowls. Why have a bowl middleman when the conferences and teams can get all that money straight up? Why let NOLA, and Dallas, and Atlanta get the gates when the schools can. And let Athens, and T-Town, and Columbus, and Clemson get the hotel and restaurant money. If anyone says tradition, fuck off. Tradition is gone ... that happened with consolidation.

UCLA has a lease thru 2044.

That may be all and good for most. Have at it. For me, my hope at the beginning of the year is to watch my Badgers in the Rose Bowl. You enjoy the game the way you want and I'll enjoy it the way I want.

I totally respect that. You may not get that chance. I am a tradition guy, much like you. The only difference, it appears, is that I have come to understand that it doesn't mean anything anymore. At least not to those calling the shots.

We aren't different in our understanding. It's more like I just don't care.about the CFP that much. I'll live in my football fantasy realm and consider a bowl game as a reward. To tell you the truth, I think I'd rather see an SEC/B1G match-up in the Rose Bowl. Except, I want one more shot at USC to get more payback for '63.

Really hope the Rosebowl just accepts the highest ranking teams it can get in a NY6 bowl.. or preferably a CFP game..

It's still a national treasure.. People will always attend those games even if there isn't a PAC vs BiG school playing in it every year.
