Instead of ten yards and repeat down… why not just loss of down and place ball at previous line of scrimmage?

Discuss.

You’re saying 3rd and 10 is worse than 2nd and 20?
I’m saying 4th and 5 is definitely tougher than 3rd and 15.

And in some scenarios, 3rd and 10 definitely could be tougher than 2nd and 20.

Average yards per play in NCAAF is around 6 yards. I’d rather have 4th and 5 than 3rd and 15.

OP has a mental disorder.

Nobody is being forced to accept the penalty. They have an option.

There are different scenarios where a coach could choose one option or the other.

Another gem of a thread, @ELTEXAN..God love ya, brother

So if I hold a DE when he beats me on a pass rush in order to avoid a sack my team will be rewarded with an inarguably much better situation than if we'd given up a sack?

You’re punting on 4th and 5 about 99% of the time. Christ.

Can someone out together a compilation of all the dumb rule changes @ELTEXAN has suggested over the years. I'm curious what CFB would look like

I do think there’s a disproportionate amount of defensive penalties that are an automatic first down compared to offensive penalties that result in a loss of down

Also with penalties on either goal line, the half the distance yardage should be the penalty for either side. Offsides is like a 1 foot penalty, while a false start is the full 5 yards, or vise versa if the offense is pinned against their own goal line

No turnover on a fumble through end zone. Classic eltex.

And you didn’t argue why the one in this thread is dumb. Just another irrelevant post. Classic Fish.

Yeah, just give them the yardage. The majority of the time, those penalties result in a first down anyway. But on those occasions when it's say...3rd and 20...a 10 or 15 yard penalty shouldn't also be a 1st down.

Tiger and donkey bring an argument to the king, the Lion. The argument is whether grass is green or blue.

The donkey wants the Lion to decide the argument and punish the loser. The Lion agrees and punishes the Tiger.

After the donkey leaves, the Tiger asks the Lion "why did you punish me? Grass is clearly green, not blue."

The Lion replies "because you decided to argue with a dumbass"
