Rumors of BOB to Virginia Tech

There would be entirely way too much pressure on Shane to take over VT right now. Every single thing he did would always be second guessed. Now, if he can contend at USCe for a few years then VT comes calling, it could work out.

They probably would have given it to him too if they would have fired Fuente last year. Lots of VT fans were pushing for him.

Well, let's see. Florida had to hire a new one, so will Oklahoma, so did LSU, and Florida, and Duke, Southern Cal, and Notre Dame, and so on. The Hokies could have stuck with who they had (even though canning his ass last season was in the works), and they could always look forward to a total of 5-7 wins each season. Pretty sure when Texas reached out and hired Sark, the struggle might not have been as "real", but we see how this season went. Pry was a great recruiter for Penn State in the Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC area. These are players that could have possibly come to Blacksburg... if Fuente would have recruited like his job depended on it.

I don't buy into this.

They're ALL a gamble. There's no guarantee any of these HC's that have been poached will be successful in their new digs.
The pile of P5 coordinators and G5 HC's that have made the jump is deep.

Examples:

Muschamp, McElwain, Mullen: Florida
Strong, Herman: Texas
Kiffin, Sarkisian, Helton: USC
Taggart, Norvell: Florida St

All of which were LOCKS to revitalize those programs based mainly on them being in "talent rich" areas.

There are plenty other examples that were at big schools that aren't so much in talent rich areas, but have the resources to buy pretty much whatever they want with tradition and funding.

Gibbs, Schnellenberger, Blake: Oklahoma
Dooley, Jones, Pruitt: Tennessee
Rodriguez, Hoke: Michigan
Davie, Willingham, Weis: Notre Dame
Callahan, Pelini, Riley, Frost: Nebraska

Meyer, Saban, and Swinney were ALL gambles.

There's only a small handful of elite coaches in a generation. It's all about luck in landing one.

I saw some talk the other day that Jeff Monken from Army was a rumored top choice. Hope you like the triple option

I don't think that will happen. My vote is Jamey Chadwell at Coastal Carolina.
