Sanky Update On SEC Expansion

Who knew the trash panda UCFHonors had a Youtube channel ?

I listened to this guy often and he has gotten some stuff right in the past but he has gone off the rocker lately with the ACC/SEC rumors.

is Disney still goign to be in Florida much longer?

Watching another video, here is the background of where this GoldenBlue guy got it:

Dan Patrick was the "Source" and it is all over the place now. It sounds a little far-fetched to me.

I thought I read the low estimates were 60-70 million less a year?
OK, let me get my calculator out here.

$65,000,000 (annual disparity)
X 12 (years)
$780,000,000 Total Shortfall

Those ACC teams would be so far behind the SEC and B1G they'd be living on whale shit at the bottom of the ocean.

I tend to agree with consensus on here, I don't see ACC teams making the jump due to GOR and the value just isn't there right now.

I am not sure why there are so many media members bringing up rumors about ACC schools going to B1G or SEC.

They do it for clicks brah

whenever it dies down, they then start attacking the schools who are leaving.. rinse/repeat

It doesn't make sense financially but adding Kansas and Oklahoma State to the SEC solves a lot of rivalry issues and boosts one of our weakest sports (Men's Basketball).

I think OkSU would be on the list to go to 20 or 22. Kansas doesn't have a chance, I don't think. The $$$ just doesn't make sense.

OU fans may diss Jr. but the majority of us would like to see OSU in the SEC with us. Don't kid yourselves, Jr. would jump up and win a lot of football games no one expected them to win. And to their credit, they are hell on wheels in baseball. Bedlam would survive and a hot rivalry would flourish between Oklahoma State and Arkansas. LSU would be a natural enemy too. Do it, SEC. Even doing it later is better than never.

Kansas solves the Missouri situation in that Missouri finally gets that rival again. They also great for Men's Basketball.

Definitely agree though.

It would be good for college football (and sports in general) if both these teams were added to solve rivalry issues. Even from a rivalry standpoint, none of the other teams in Big12 make sense. However, it definitely doesn't make Financial sense and won't happen.

I don’t see it happening.

Expansion is going to come from the ACC which by now pretty much everyone in that conference has to be nervous.

The SEC isn’t going to take OSU when UNC, UVA, FSU, Clemson and Miami are up for grabs.

Right now the SEC will own the Oklahoma viewing market anyway so they are going to want something in NC or Virginia more than likely.

If the SEC whiffs on UNC I think they would be more inclined to take NC State than OSU. I just don’t see it ever happening.

Agree. Only way Oklahoma State gets in is if there is an odd number of teams and SEC just needs someone to add similar to the Missouri situation with Texas A&M. (We almost added West Virginia. They were very interested and rumors are there was serious discussions but Missouri came in at last minute and stole WVU's spot).

I don’t think West Virginia was even close and we would have gone with an unbalance league.

There were some discussion with ACC schools but the ACC intervened and voted through a 5 to 8 million dollar increase on the exit fee. A year later they increased the total to 50 million and now it’s the GOR.

Maryland and FSU were the ones who voted against the increased exit fee so there is a hint of at least one school that got discussion.

No one would even blink at an 11 million dollar exit fee today but in 2011 it seemed insurmountable. Now schools are paying coaches 20 million to leave. Shit is nuts.

It is all speculation but this is the rumors from 2010/2011 expansion:

1. UNC and Duke met with SEC about joining although I don't know how serious it was and whether either party agreed to anything. Rumors said it was just an investigation and no real meat to it
2. West Virginia was on board and wanted to join SEC (they were desperate then). SEC seriously considered them and it went beyond just normal discussions.
3. Clemson and FSU also approached (later than the two listed above) but SEC was interested in time: Notably hold-ups with Florida and South Carolina although both have changed position today
4. Missouri approached around same time as Clemson and FSU once it looked like B1G wasn't happening. SEC ended up picking Mizzou over West Virginia due to markets

I have not heard rumors of anyone else in that time period. I know in 2020 that Ohio State, Nebraska, and Notre Dame approached the SEC about playing a 1-year schedule until their leagues finally bit the bullet and decided to play. These talks did not get to a level of being serious at any point and it would have only been a 1-year addition. ACC also made effort to keep the single OOC rivalry game although the SEC didn't agree mostly due to logistical reasons (SEC wanted to monitor COVID-19 protocols internally and doing an OOC game would have been too complicated).

Why weren’t we close?
