I follow this closely, and haven't heard it mentioned but I really like it if we are going to stay at an 8 teams IC schedule. It makes no sense if they go to 9 IC games. The way I drew it out would get the okay from the bottom 8 and they evidently need that. Although going with 8 IC games means they don't have to kowtow to the bottom 8. Still go with mine for TV inventory. BTW, it's the TV inventory that will make us go to 3-6.
 
I still got $10 on Aggy working behind the scenes to stay out of the Longhorn’s “pod.”

1. Ole Miss is not a historic rival. Those would be Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Auburn vs Miss State has more history as we never played Ole Miss until divisional play.

2. You don’t get the easiest road it just doesn’t work the way.

3. No one else caught crap because they didn’t throw Auburn under a bus and made their own schedule the easiest in the SEC.

8 games works for you guys because Tech is basically your 9th game but if we do that Auburn vs Georgia is toast.

This is going to come down to economics and the 9 game schedule is just worth more money to the conference as a whole. Teams like Missouri, Kentucky and the a Mississippi schools are goin for fight it because they want the additional cupcake but it’s time to man up.

I'm am all for the 9 game IC and we will keep Tech. We won't play 2 hard P5 each year so we will have to do some scheduling changes.

Interestingly, going to 9 IC games doesn't affect or change our ESPN contract as one might think it would. Bringing in OU and TX does. It will be done at the same time.

At first, I had y’all with LSU and Bama getting MSU. But I switched it up. I mean. Either way. It’s 16 teams.

LSU has a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm sure with theirs, because it felt too forced. As soon as we joined it was supposed to replace the Jexas game and tried to get sold that way. Arky still has the SWC history. I'd be ok if it were on something like a 4 year rotation for the second "permanent" game. I don't know, I'm not paid to try to figure that stuff out so haven't spent a lot of time. I'm sure I'll find some reason to be upset about whatever they come up with.

Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt are Tennessee's most played rivalry games and are cited in nearly every media source.

Tennessee has played Kentucky 114 times and Vanderbilt 108 times. They are not ending those series anytime soon.

Also, Kentucky has been pretty damn good the last 5 years. I think they have been better than Auburn in that span.

Your post shows me you don't know jack about Tennessee football.

I can agree to #1, I was just trying to find someone that was "easier" than Florida to be on your schedule. There have been great Auburn-Ole Miss games since formation of SEC West.

I agree on Auburn-Tennessee being a rivalry game but it is a rivalry that kind of died during the division split. However, most Tennessee fans would pick Florida as the #4 team if they could keep 4 permanent opponents. Auburn would be #5 or #6 (I think Georgia might be bigger than Auburn now as well for Tennessee).

Now there is no way they let us get away with what @WhosYourDawggy's suggestion and have only KY and Vandy as permanent opponents :).

You could switch UTjr and AU and it wouldn't matter.

I mean it is a rib at Tennessee and its lack of success the past 20 years.

I am arguing with a Vol fan right now on VolNation who is stating that our lack of sellouts today were based on weak OOC schedules vs. 1990s. I pointed out the OOC schedule is not drastically different with the 1 tough team and 2 G5 teams in the 1990s vs 1 tough team and 3 G5 teams today (we went from 11 to 12 games).

The elephant in the room is that Tennessee hasn't lived up to program expectations in the last 20 years and that is why merchandise sells have plummeted and we don't fill the stands. Get us back to being in top 10-15 most seasons and winning 9-11 games and the stadium will fill up.

Trash TAMU was the runaway #1 offense their first two years in the SEC against the vaunted SEC DEFENSE.
SEC is just hype.

Or perhaps they had a once in a generation QB. Noticed that they utterly destroyed Oklahoma in the 2013 Cotton Bowl 41-13. The same Oklahoma team that was 11-2 and ranked #6. Aggie did NOT do that when they were in the Big12 either. I blame that on Johnny Manziel. They haven't done a lot since he left.

Once in a generation QB ? Lol. He looked good compared to the overhyped SEC defenses. Which is the point.
