And UGA would be the best team in every conference other than the SEC.
I would agree but it isn't certain unless one of two things happened. Then there would be no question about it.
1. If they played in every other conference's schedule and won that conference.
2. If they played and beat all the other conference champions in a playoff.
The latter is why I'm for an expanded playoff. I watched 12 games at Jerry's World back in mid December. It was the culmination of the Texas High School football playoffs. The winner of the last games (16 for most divisions) are the unquestionedundisputed champions. They beat everyone all the other district opponents and playoff teams that advanced on the field, not on the field of public perception, reputation, yada, yada, yada.
FTR, I think Georgia would have run a 3-4 game playoff gauntlet this year and been in the final just like they are now. I'm not as sure about Bama but I'd have given them at least a 75% chance of getting there. But, that's just my opinion/percpetion since there isn't such
