There's a really good ESPN documentary about the 2008 SEC Tournament if you haven't seen it. Can probably find it on demand. That will go down as the most improbable tournament run ever IMO. Given the circumstances and how badly UGA performed that season it was truly remarkable. It's what makes March so great.

Some UGA fans say it was also the worst thing that could have happened to the program because it kept them from firing a bad coach and keeping him way too long

I think they fired him the next year if I'm not mistaken. I don't recall the carousel in the 08 off-season so they may have passed on a better candidate with him winning the SEC tournament

No question he would have gotten fired after the 08 season if not for winning that. I'd have to do some additional research to look at the coaching carousel back then to see what coaching changes there were. I will say I don't think Mark Fox did terribly for you guys in hindsight.

I agree. That first weekend of March Madness is the absolute best imho. I park my ass in front of the television on Thursday and don't come up for air until Sunday night.

I never understood the old guard that didn't want an expanded football playoff because it "diminishes the value of the regular season", blah, blah, blah. Hell, late into the regular season this year the value was intensified for a lot more teams and for a much longer period of time.

It’s not so much that expanded playoffs diminishes the regular season, it just makes taking a loss far less significant and it does make CCG’s pretty meaningless and going to a CCG and losing puts you at a rest disadvantage

True…for some teams. And there is the flip side. Getting into the CCG also provides the opportunity to win the CCG and get into the playoffs ala Clemson, Az State and Boise. They ain’t in without winning it.

I mean they have gotten about as close as possible. They would likely be nervous if they lose to Vandy and then drop their first tournament game.

I said before the season no one was getting out of league play with less than 2 losses and it maybe 3 before the end of Saturday.
