SEC Schedule Drops Tomorrow

Texas dodged Auburn.

They scared.
UT told the SEC that we are only allowed to play one retarded brother of the state... which is aggy.. SEC just said yessir..Auburn doesn't make us much money anyways and their best message board troll sucks too.

That's what all of 'em should look like imo.
But they all do look way better IC. OOC, in most years we have close to what they have. Miami, FSU, and UCF is impressive other than the fact they don't leave the state. But still 3 solid P5s.

For all the whining people are doing about the 8th game, if folks understood that without divisions and adding OU and TX, the SEC IC schedules are going to be insane. Then go look at most SEC teams' OOC and you will see that the whole "play a 9th IC game" is just some high-level trolling or butthurt, or both. I am for the 9th game, but the idea that somehow SEC teams aren't playing the most challenging schedules is nonsense.

9th game is needed for rivalries and ensuring schools play each other, home/away within 4 years

it's not for the optics

Quite a few SEC teams have important annual rivalries with non-SEC teams

Unless all of the teams turn to shit this year, it’s likely the hardest schedule in 2024. Georgia doesn’t leave their state for OOC either in 2024. not that it matters against some of those scrubs.

I don't care about in conference games or whether there are 8 or 9. As a crazy CFP fan, I'd like to see ALL high quality in conference AND OOC games. Hell, if in conference games are all that matter, might as well subscribe to the Artie Boy Briles mentality of scheduling OOC.

An opportunity to capitalize on a regional rivalry that’s just itching to take off was sitting right there for the SEC commissioner and the conference schedule makers.

Fayetteville, Arkansas, is roughly 3 hours and 45 minutes away from Norman, Oklahoma. Arkansas is the closest SEC school to the Sooners by two hours. Arkansas‘ next closest matchup is the Missouri Tigers, a little more than an hour further from Norman.

Additionally, Fayetteville is just over two hours from Tulsa. Given its proximity to the border, the home of the Hogs is a stone’s throw from the Sooner State.

Managing to figure out an eight-game conference schedule with 16 SEC teams is no easy task. Yet, the simplest answer for the conference would have been to have Oklahoma and Arkansas meet in Fayetteville instead of the programs traveling to Auburn, Alabama, or Oxford, Mississippi.

Despite their proximity, the Sooners and the Razorbacks have met on the gridiron on only 15 occasions. The last was a 10-3 win for the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl at the end of the 2001 season. The last time the Razorbacks made the trip to Norman was back in 1926. Oklahoma hasn’t made the jaunt east to Fayetteville since 1919.

It’s a game that would generate a ton of local buzz for both states and provide a boon to the local economies. With the Sooners moving to the SEC and the future of Bedlam in doubt, a regional matchup like Oklahoma-Arkansas could be a rivalry in the making.

The Sooners and the Razorbacks will get their date to host one another down the road. However, the SEC should have broken the seal on the border war in 2024. Especially given the recent game between Arkansas and Texas. Sure, they’re old Southwest Conference rivals, but there’s no reason Oklahoma and Arkansas can’t create something similar. With the close proximity and the overlapping nature of the fan bases, the SEC had a chance to create a game on the conference schedule that just means more.

But hey, you get back to playing Missouri again!

I think everyone agrees that the 9th game is needed and makes the most sense. The problem is there are enough schools in the conference that want to avoid it like the plague because that gives them an easier path to a bowl. It's BS but let's call it what it is then you have Alabama backing off and that is just posturing because they want an easier 3 permanent opponents and ADs don't want to give up the extra home game every other year.

Make no mistake this is about money:

1. They want more out of ESPN
2. They want to protect their home game revenue
3. They want to protect bowl revenue

If ESPN steps up and pays extra for the 9th game then the majority of this goes away but none of them want to give it away for free at this point.

As for rivalries, they will be fine and you'll have plenty of time to develop your own.

LOL at the Sooner trying to make a case Oklahoma should play Arkansas and Mizzou every year. You and Vandy both have strong bowling clubs so thats a natural rivalry as well.

Oh, I get that ... I am for 9 games, and we will go to 9 games. My point is that with 8 games our schedules are more competitive than any other conference. When we go to 9, it's going to be insane how difficult the schedules will be. The top 8/9 teams in the SEC will play 2 top teams each year, and then rotate through the others every other year.

Looking at what they gave us in this 8-game schedule in 2024, we can assume in 2025 when they go to 9, our schedule will be:

2025 - @UCLA, GaTech / @Auburn, nUF, @Kentucky / OU, @ATM, LSU / @Vandy, Arkansas, @USCjr / Austin Pea or Charlotte
2026 - UCLA, GaTech, @Louisville / Auburn, nUF, Kentucky / Bama, Texas, @Tenn / Ole Miss, @MSU, Mizzou
2027 - @FSU, GaTech, Louisville / @Auburn, nUF, @Kentucky / @OU, ATM, @LSU, Vandy, @Arkansas, USCjr
2028 - FSU, GaTech / Auburn, nUF, Kentucky / @Bama, @Texas, Tenn / @Ole Miss, MSU, @Mizzou / FAMU

You can see why I don't give a crap about our schedule this year, or all the other conferences whining about the SEC not going to 8 games. I welcome this schedule, but the idea that the SEC doesn't and won't be playing anyone is ridiculous.

I think with OU losing the Oklahoma State Bedlem rivalry that Arkansas would make a natural replacement game.

It's been VERY clear, Arkansas wants UT on the schedule. The schedule makers also made it very clear that every school gets to play either of us, but not both of us this season. You can't expect a natural rivalry to happen despite distance when there is no prior history. Takes time. I still think ou and okie light need to make some sort of peace and continue that game.

Yeah I agree.. outside the creating a rivalry.. UT already has 3 historic rivalries in place here. I just want to play everyone in the conference sooner rather than the one time every 13 year avg UGA/aggy has taken.

I think you guys need to learn to play teams with a pulse instead of worrying about fake rivalries that are grossly lop sided.
