Shoeless Joe Jackson

what makes you so sure that Rose is getting in after he dies? Sport commissioners seem to fear overturning precedents set by their predecessor. Super weird.
To me Pete Rose is an easy fix, allow him in for what he did as a player (his records are still in the books anyway), but keep him banned from Baseball i.e he can't manage, consult be at games etc.

Chewy gonna whip yourn ass.
Oh No Omg GIF

HOF has no ties to the commissioner’s office.
Didn't know that. With that said, it is pretty clear that there is a relationship between Rose being banned from baseball and him not being eligible for the HOF.

Hopefully Manfred dies before Pete, but I don’t think they’ll keep out the hit king forever. When he dies, his sentence will be served
Shoeless Joe is an obvious Hall of Famer and he's been dead since 1951.

Nearly everyone agreed to this already. But MLB doesn't want to ever celebrate Pete Rose and put one penny in his pocket. Not while he's alive at least, and probably for a good number of years after he's dead.

Meanwhile, MLB and HOF will continue to celebrate 'juiced ball' era meatheads and continue to forgive PED users.

the only hitter I'd say was better during Jackson's career was Cobb and maybe Speaker, unless you count Ruth and Hornsby. But Ruth only had two full seasons as a position player during Jackson's career and Hornsby's best years came after 1920.

Yeah Shoeless had a very brief career, but he still managed over 60 WAR despite having only 5694 PA. He finished in the top 10 in WAR eight times and had nine seasons in the top 10 in OPS+ (all top 5 finishes). I think his career is HOF worthy, especially if short career guys like Kiner are in.

of course, there's the whole Black Sox thing...

Imagine a world where you weren’t such a faggy cunt.
Aww, you hurt me with your words, Cletus. Stick to commenting about shitty, low rent moonshine and leave the baseball talk to folks that have played and coached baseball.

I’m ready to hear about Rec League in Ballground Georgia. Anytime Chewy wants to talk about it.

I’d also like to hear if anyone thinks Eddie Cicotte has a HOF worthy resume. Don’t really think Jackson’s case is debatable. He was great. He just, you know, took money in exchange for intentionally not winning a World Series. No big deal.

In a roundabout way it does. The Hall voted to ban from induction all players on the permanently ineligible list of MLB. That list is controlled by the Commissioner's office.

He'd have better totals if he hadn't gotten booted from the league for throwing the World Series.
I know. The counting stats aren’t there though. Him getting booted while still playing at a high level hurts his case. Rose has a better chance of making the HOF after he dies than Joe because Rose is the hit king

Rex, you have literally never made a valid point about baseball. This lack of self awareness is just pure cringe.

I’m well aware of your lack of mental capacity and it’s highly likely you misunderstood the comment you originally quoted

Cartman: Awwww my mom is so poor she walked down the road with one shoooe. [backs up] And if you ask her if she lost a shoe, she'd say "No I found ooone."

As sports betting grows more and more, the Pete Rose precedent becomes more and more dangerous. As it moves into the mainstream there is more of an opportunity for players/managers/owners to stray dangerously close to betting on baseball.

MLB would be wise to overturn it now before they end up having to either break the "if you are tied to gambling on baseball in any way you are banned from anything baseball for life" because some key figures get tripped up.
