SI SEC Pod Predictions

Sounds like a 4 team pod either way.

If I’m Auburn and I play UGA, Bama and Vandy every year then that’s a 4 team pod. If you rotate another 4 SEC school for an 8 conference game schedule then it’s still a pod.

If walks like a pod, smells like a pod and sounds like a pod then it’s a pod.
I am not sure how to explain it any different. Do you not understand the difference between 4 groups of 4 playing each other in a round robin format, and each team getting 3 permanent rivals, with no 2 teams having the same other 3 teams? I mean that is a significant difference in how it plays out. The later provides far more high end games which is why it is emerging as the favorite format.

You are getting all tied up on the word "pod." Call it a pod if you like, but the two methods of determining who you play is obviously significantly different. If you really think it through, the word pod is stupid. If you are going to use pods - 4 groups of 4 - then call them divisions like all other sports do. You could could do East (UF, UGA, Ky, and USCjr), Central (UA, AU, UTjr, Vandy), West (OU, TX, A&M, Mizzou) and South (LSU, OM, MSU and Arky) - not geographically perfect, but you get the point.

This isn't something I made up ... this is what everyone is using to describe these groups of teams.

I’ve always thought of pods being made up of 4 teams that play each other and would rotate 4 to 5 more games a year with the remaining conference members.

The 2 teams with the best record would play each other in a championship game unless they kill that off. I can see other conferences killing their championship games but the SEC will hang onto it for it’s worth.

I would name the 4 team groups after Barbeque sauces

I wonder why everyone thinks Missouri and Oklahoma need to be in the same Pod.
It's ridiculous.

Nobody wants to see that game. Oklahoma fans sure don't, and Missouri fans are tired of getting kicked in the balls.
Been there done that.

When you are looking for more 'eyeballs' and 'best games possible', then Missouri is not the answer to this.
lol it's the only other school that was part of the Big8. who cares about eyeballs..y'all literally had to get PPV to watch an OOC game anyways

It’s a default game. There are so many SEC traditional rivalries to make sure stay intact it becomes more difficult to integrate you guys into the conference. Therefore you get stuck with Missouri. I will say this though if you get Florida as permanent opponent that is a good get because it gives you exposure in Florida which is a massive recruiting base.

Everyone has a dud in their pod so that is the give and take.

You have described what most everyone else calls "pods" - they would then rotate 6 other games among the other 12 teams, meaning you play everyone, every other year. 2 best teams, however that is determined. The SECCG will not go away, and I'd bet the others will keep theirs ... too much money, and the extra win will be needed by some conferences.

All that said, the ACC seems to be favoring the "permanent rival" model, not pods. Same with the SEC.

Here is the list and it makes sense. There are a couple of teams that get a pass on heavy hitters like KY, Mizzou and Ark but for the most part, the strength of schedule is spread out.

The Bammers will have a heart attack because they have the toughest pod which I think is hysterical because they've been given an easier road for years so its time they paid up. The writers say it's Auburn but there is no way we don't play Alabama and Georgia every year so throwing in Vandy was a bone IMO and that is why I think Alabama has the tougher pod. To be fair I don't see a world where they don't play Auburn, LSU, and TN every year either so this is one of the better lists I've seen. The balance isn't perfect but you aren't going to get that.

Here's the full slate of his predictions.
  • Missouri: Oklahoma; Arkansas; South Carolina
  • Arkansas: Missouri; Texas; Kentucky
  • Texas A&M: LSU; Texas; Mississippi State
  • Texas: Oklahoma; Texas A&M; Arkansas
  • Oklahoma: Texas; Missouri; Florida
  • LSU: Ole Miss; Texas A&M; Alabama
  • Ole Miss: Mississippi State; LSU; Vanderbilt
  • Mississippi State: Ole Miss; Kentucky; Texas A&M
  • Alabama: Auburn; Tennessee; LSU
  • Auburn: Alabama; Georgia; Vanderbilt
  • Vanderbilt: Tennessee; Ole Miss; Auburn
  • Tennessee: Vanderbilt; Alabama; South Carolina
  • Kentucky: Mississippi State; Arkansas; Georgia
  • Georgia: Auburn; Florida; Kentucky
  • Florida: Georgia; South Carolina; Oklahoma
  • South Carolina: Florida; Missouri; Tennessee

Auburn's group of three is probably the toughest draw of all of the SEC teams even with Vanderbilt being on the list.
Auburn would lose playing LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Texas A&M even year during this model. They would keep the Iron Bowl vs Alabama and the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry against Georgia. Auburn would gain Vanderbilt as an annual opponent and though there's little emotional response to that, Auburn would welcome the lesser opponent on the schedule.

Actually I would put the following teams as being harder than Auburn's schedule:

1. Alabama - They have the toughest by far if Tennessee cane come back. Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee (three all-time top 15 CFB programs).

2. Texas - I would put Texas' schedule ahead of Auburn since they have Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. All three are fairly tough opponents if they are up. Auburn having Vandy makes their schedule weaker than Texas.

3. Florida - Florida's schedule is slightly tougher than Auburn having Georgia, Oklahoma, and South Carolina (mostly due to South Carolina being typically better than Vandy).

4. Auburn - I put you guys about here. Texas A&M might have a harder schedule if Texas can get back to form.

Regarding my Vols, Tennessee-South Carolina makes little sense to keep as a rivalry game. If you look all-time top 3 rivals for Tennessee, they would be Alabama, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt (I know the latter two typically are not good at football but Tennessee has played them since the 1800s every year). After those three, I would say possible Florida although I would prefer playing Auburn or Ole Miss on an annual basis again. Also Tennessee vs. Texas would be a neat rivalry game.

WTF is this pods shit?!?!?!?

Why can't we call it divisions like every other adult sport?

The good news is they aren't going to go with pods. 3-6 with 3 permanent rivals.

So you are basically saying that Alabama and Georgia is an easier road than Oklahoma and aTm.

In fact you basically are rating Oklahoma as being a tougher game than Alabama in all of your picks above.

I don’t think you’ve been watching college football the last decade.
