SNL:50 Episode Game Thread

Well, what did I miss?

I watched lots of the original cast back in the 70's and those great casts from the early to mid 80's. But then the show sucked for about a decade and I stopped watching. There seems to have been some better casts in the early aughts and teens, but I wasn't watching while they happened, I've just found a lot of it on youtube.

I missed a lot of tv while my kids were growing up.

I havent watched SNL or found it remotely funny since maybe 1999 or around that time. The 50 show was fun and entertaining for nostalgia reasons, but also a reality check seeing all these people who were once young so old.

New actors, actresses, and writers were limited to in-house Paramount Pictures movies or NBC. Was he blocking them from movies? No, but they had to be Paramount Movies for $75,000 pay. Not the $Millions they'd be getting from an industry competitor.

Aykroyd left SNL in 1979. He obviously wasn't part of the 1999 contract.
Aykroyd didn't even bother to show up for the 50th reunion for that matter.

He was obviously referring to pre-1999 contracts because he had no post 1999 data to use as example.

New SNL hires in 1999 were contractually obligated to take Paramount Pictures movies for ($75,000 pay) or NBC sitcoms, of which their acting/writing careers could be owned for 12 years.
Paramount and NBC owned SNL. They owned any actors, actresses, and writers that were under that contract.

Why would minor roles not count? According to you, nbc blocked those.
 
NBC chose not to enforce that clause of the contract. It's pretty simple.

Notice mjf didn't give any examples of Lorne Michaels 'other' comments? He/She/They/Them/Meow, was clearly asked to give examples of 'other' comments.

Because none of those 'other' comments support mjf's point that SNL actors, actresses, and writers are quality Hollywood acting/writing talent. It's why they had to take the SNL gig.

Because minor roles (i.e. being extras) are for actors/actresses who have little (if any) quality acting talent.

NBC could block them from doing a non Paramount Pictures movies by assigning them to a sitcom. They could lock them up for 12 years.

We've been through this. It was in their contracts. The article told us that.
