So NIL wasn't enough?

NCAA has lost all control. They’re hoping the government will put in place laws that the universities will be forced to follow.

Yep. The NCAA might as well get completely out of the rule making/rule enforcing portion of their organization. They couldn't do it very well when they did have a big stick. Now they don't even have a twig.

What difference does it make? NCAA can’t enforce anything now anyhoo. In fact, Penny and Memphis should just ignore their blather and move on. Same for anyone else they are “looking into”.

which are the reasons the NCAA wants government backing

NCAA=Schools

So the schools want the government to intervene?

Imo, the NCAA being the schools is a big part of the problem. The NCAA should be a true 3rd party. When USC was going through the Reggie Bush stuff, 2 direct rivals were involved in investigating and determining the punishment. To be fair, one of them (Notre Dame) recused themselves from that part of the process.

At least 1 member of that committee was overheard talking about how USC was going to get crushed before the investigation was even started. So basically, they went in already knowing what punishment was going to happen and then had to try to make their ''evidence'' fit the punishment.

They need to go with a true 3rd party and if someone on the committee attended the school being investigated or went to school at a direct rival (conference or otherwise)...not recusing themselves shouldn't even be a choice.

That isn’t unlike CFP members having direct ties to schools/conferences. They recuse themselves but still influence the shit out of other members.

Let's park this here.

Tax on NIL money

Hope these kids are getting good guidance.
By the time you make it to college you shouldn't be too stupid not to understand you have to pay taxes. On everything. I'm sorry; I have no sympathy for these poor darlings who just can't be bothered with "all this tax nonsense". Welcome to the real world.

Hell, I had a bunch of teachers that didn’t understand things like withholdings for taxes, retirement, Medicare, etc. And every one of them had at least one college degree and many had two!

I’ve always been amazed at how naive some people are that work in not for profits like education, ministry, law enforcement…hell, even the military. While “$” isn’t their driving force, there is definitely a business side for them that has to be in place and properly function!

I know @Volbound1700 is smiling right now. They are making sure that the next Walter Nolan stays in state.

UTjr ... they screw up everything. At this point, where UTjr's coaches can no longer claim they aren't involved and that it's all a third party, the NCAA will have to do something. There is an NCAA rule that says that the schools can't be involved in the NIL. This also will open UTjr up to Title IX complaints, etc. Plausible deniability has always been a hallmark of the NIL concepts ... "if we aren't involved, it's a 3rd party, we can't be breaking NCAA rules, and we aren't subject to Title IX."

those rules will change, however in the meantime, they should be able to purchase a top 5 class if the war chest is half of what they claim to be for the '23 class. They are getting Nico weapons

Oklahoma just announced an NIL deal.

Every scholarship football player will be getting 50k a year.

There's also deals in the works for basketball and softball.

Hold on.....wait a minute. Let me do some figuring here.

Average instate undergraduate costs* to attend OU: $32,315 + $50,000 = $82,315
Average nonresident undergraduate costs* to attend OU: $48,219 + $50,000 = $98,219.

And that's for everyone. Even a third stringer. LMAO How much money are these honks going to make after graduation if they aren't playing pro ball? And the average student is struggling with student loans, etc.

* Cost
