Any Longhorn and Sooner fans have any intel? Seems like all the communication has gone dark. We know that 2022/2023 season is not happening but what about 2023/2024. Are they going to wait until 2025 when contract ends?

My understanding is that the 2023/2024 season is when the new Big12 teams join so will we see a season with the new Big12 + OU and Texas?

I have no idea.
@Thiefery will tell you that we are broke and don't have the money for the payout.
@Goldbug will tell you that with our current situation, what's the hurry and the money's there when it happens.

I'm not sure anyone actually knows.

I think we are trying to get some relief from the exit fee and 'whats the hurry'.

I think the SEC really wants it to happen sooner rather than later.
There's money left on the table, I think, every year that goes by.

Perhaps ESPN and the SEC can help with some of that.

And maybe none of that is correct.

@fordman84 probably has heard some stuff.

Well if they don't leave until scheduled, I think there will be one year with 14 teams in Big12. Am I understanding that correctly because I think BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF join next season.

Yes
That's what I heard.
They will put Oklahoma and Texas in separate Divisions, so that when we leave, they don't have to restructure everything

From what I have read, they are going to stay the length of their obligation. 2025. It fits with the CFP expansion, and to some degree the TV contract. I think in some ways they are taking the path of "we'll wait you out" and at some point you are going to want us out of the B12 so you can move on. But everything points to 2025 at this point in time.

Lol we won't be staying til 2025.. The money is the same if we left now or then. This is the last season for the two schools to be in the Big12

Not until the ESPN contract sets in. What you say makes sense, but the fact that everything everyone says points at 2025 makes it interesting.

I agree 100%. Let's be real here. ESPN definitely prefers more "high profile" games for their inventory. We know which teams bring that. While not all games can be like OU vs Bama, games like Texas vs Vandy will bring more eyeballs than South Carolina vs Vandy....at least for a national draw. Having OU and Texas will increase their viewership in those type games IMHO.

All I know is there better be a new CFB video game out by the time they move conferences.

June 30,2025 will be the last day for OU and Texas in the Big12. That’s when the GOR deal runs out, that’s how long the Big12 has em by the balls.

Kinda funny to me to listen to how the remaining teams in the Dysfunctional XII are acting so self assured about their great financial future with those excellent new teams coming into the conference to create maybe the most competitive conference in college football and yet they're scrambling around on the ground trying to pick up every penny they can before Oklahoma and Texas go out the door.

It's certainly possible you're right. However, with your litany of dumbass comments like the one below, it would only be by accident.

Yeah I'd still bet that UT/ou begin SEC play in '22..

Also, the money is definitely not the same if OU/UT leave now vs. 2025.

That was the plan til it was leaked early, then you had conferences all of the sudden vote no on expanded playoffs

It was a shell even with TX/OU

Only tejas was making comparable $$ to the SEC/Big 10 because of the LHN deal supplementing them.

Yep. Gap's going to get larger between the SEC/B1G and the other three. And there is nothing the other three "conferences" can do about it.

A very limited number of schools have two options IMHO. Seek membership in one of the two big money conferences or go independent like ND. But the majority of the other 38 schools in the ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12 really don't have any options. They can't do anything but learn to live with lesser means like the G5s.

i haven't heard anyone doing that -
