So What stops a kid from Threatening to leave?

If they are giving this money to every single OL on the roster, from the walk ons to the highly rated OL recruits -- then i'm fine with it. If they put this offer out there and only give it to starters -- then it is an issue.
No generally it will be more for starting, but most are making money

If this is what they are doing in the open, imagine what they are pulling under the table

:pop2:
we don't have to imagine it.. we just gotta look at B/CS...

What's going to happen -- you will have "charities" at every top tier school. Come to Alabama - we will give any scholarship QB $500k to do charity appearances. Come to OSU -- we will give any WR $150k to do charity appearances. Come to "fill in the blank".

This is nothing more than a recruiting tool and a blatant one at that.
again, you are alarmed because it's now legal.. otherwise were you up in arms when this happened?

sent approximately $180,000 of that money to the father of Vadal Alexander, the former LSU offensive guard who played for the Tigers from 2012-2015 and was a student-athlete at the time of the payments.

Four sources have confirmed for Daily Report that Alexander’s father, James Alexander, was the recipient of the $180,000, who is referenced in the court documents only as “Individual C.”

180k for an OL.. and you think he was the only one getting that amount at LSU?

But lets attack Horns with Heart and players getting a taxable $150k

look at Bijan, making slimey money smh

We’re not in the SEC just yet. That's the land of dirty dealings

Yes -- that is dirty as hell. All Texas is doing is trying to find a loophole now and sprinkle fairy dust on it, by calling it a charity. It is still paying for recruits.

As a Michigan fan -- i couldn't care less, as if the NCAA allows this, there isn't a football school with an alumni base with deeper pockets than UM. Stanford may be up there.

charities get money too though lol and the players will be doing appearances.. just like how celebs do it.

Yeah Texas is doing nothing wrong (from a legal NIL stance) here. Nor do I wish to get into the ethics of it as I think it is supremely smart for Texas to do this with the hogmollys up front. I’m really jealous of it actually.

I can’t wait for the issues that arise when a board of director member or head of one of these “non profit” charities also happens to be affiliated and employed by one of these universities. And no, I’m not saying Texas is dumb enough to do that, but there’s more then one university dumb enough to.

I was just thinking if I was Bryce Young or CJ Stroud why wouldn’t I threaten to leave and act like I’m entering the portal so all local business would throw NIL money at me to stay?

What stops a kid from using this as leverage?

Why would they? They are already making a ton of money right now. Bryce Young was a NIL millionaire before he threw a pass this season. Think of the endorsement deals he is getting now. He's going to have generational money money before he takes an NFL snap. Why poison that well because he can get an extra few hundred thousand threatening to transfer.

Im starting to get more on board with it because of college basketball. When Marcus Smart decided to come back for his sophomore season he became an instant celebrity in the sport. He turned down lottery pick money to spend another season in college and that is rare. I think kids getting 6 figures and being BMOC for another year will benefit that sport. They know they are getting a huge paycheck but they can be kids and enjoy the college experience a little longer.
