Socially acceptable time to start putting up Christmas stuff

The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is lowkey a fantastic night. It is absolutely PRIME for some sport to make their own special night. Always thought college basketball could make the night special like making it a rivalry night. Yes I know it's early for conference games, but having that one off early conference game and it's a rivalry game would make it special. You could have Duke/UNC happen.

Or if you didnt want a conference game, just make it big name programs facing each other. UNC/Kansas. Duke/Kansas. Kentucky/UNC, etc.

People are home, they have nothing to do, they don't have to work the next day, for some it's getting to their families house for the extended holiday weekend and nothing to do. Get some good sports on the TV.

Tree & other Christmas stuff goes up the week following Thanksgiving.

I've already done almost ALL of my Christmas shopping! I'll pack it all this week and ship it out next week. Then all I need to do is some oddz and endz shopping locally after that. EZ PEEZY!!

But I am already seeing Christmas lights going up on houses. To me this seems a bit premature.

Why put up your lights now in 60-70 degree weather when you can wait until it’s cold, rainy and windy to climb a ladder like an idiot and miss out on the opportunity to piss off your crabby neighbor who can’t mind his own business?

Also, if you’re one of those people who are so starved for attention that you put a 50 foot skeleton on your lawn for Halloween then you absolutely deserve to look at other people’s Christmas lights all through November.

I’m both those people.
14’ is the tallest of the Halloween, but there’s a lot of them. All come down the following weekend.

Lights go up this week while it’s sunny and 50’s.
Lights don’t get plugged in until Thanksgiving night.

OP is probably one who never bothered to take his Christmas stuff down from last year.

I’m jealous of all the robust storage space some people apparently have for these enormous skeletons.

That thing would to stay outside all year at my house.

I built the taller ones myself. All come apart into 2-3 sections. Nothing taller than 5’ for storage.
My backyard shed is 2-stories. Only thing on the second floor is holiday decorations.

I'll start this post by saying I love Christmas and I love the Christmas season. As I have gotten older the season goes by faster and faster. I know in what will feel like a blink of an eye I will look back at think I just posted about this and the season will be over. But it seems like the move to setting up Christmas decorations is happening sooner and sooner and at some point I think it has to stop.

Again, as someone who loves the Christmas season and understands it seems shorter and shorter each year, I have come to acceptance that around the week of Thanksgiving is when the decorations can start going up. I will accept the weekend before Thanksgiving. Typically what I do is the weekend before Thanksgiving is a handful of the decorations get put up around the house, probably get the lights up on the house, but after Thanksgiving is when we get the tree, and the rest of the big time Christmas decorations get put up.

But I am already seeing Christmas lights going up on houses. To me this seems a bit premature. I won't even touch on the stores moving to Christmas theme as I saw some doing so prior to Halloween, this is just for homes.
Red One has been released as of 6 NOV in foreign countries, but I urge you to wait until the 15 NOV U.S. release date at the earliest (unless you hate this country).

This is Christmas, not valentines day we are talking about. It's a bit bigger of a season.
yes one is about vapid commercialism and consumerism, the other is about love. be it your family, faith, etc... wait, nope, I'm hearing they've both been created for the former not the latter.

if you have a 50 ft. skeleton for Halloween, by law you're supposed to put said skeleton in a headdress for November and the hat and beard for December, we live in a society.

I might put the outside lights up thanksgiving weekend, just because December is cold and usually have snow. My wife will decorate the inside first week of December and we will put up the REAL tree around the 12th. Take it all down January 1st

Roof and trim lights up and tested. Mid 50’s and sunny today.

They will stay unplugged until the 28th, but I’m not taking chances on the weather 2+ weeks from now. Could be 70 or could be 20.

I'm switching to Festivus, it's just a stupid pole. Easiest clean up ever.
