South Dakota pheasant hunting trip

Definitely. I don't fly, which restricts things a bit, but I've already scheduled to go back there next year, and I'm gonna leave a day earlier so I can swing through Colorado and Wyoming on the way out there, and hopefully my dad and brother can go then.
FWIW, Colorado is my favorite place that I have travelled too. My wife and I are not beach people so we love the mountains. We are seriously discussing moving there after we retire. I didn't get to see Pike's Peak because it was actually closed during the pandemic but Rocky Mountain National Park was amazing. You can't go anywhere and not see good country

Question for you:
Would you mind sharing details on this? Did you work with an outfitter? What was the approx cost? My 50th is coming up in November and I am really interested in doing a hunt out west for it. Direct message me if you don't want to post on the thread.
Century Farm Hunts in Gregory SD. Around 2200 bucks. They supply the dogs and shells and they feed you good. Best if you can get a group of 9-10. I’d also use a 20 or 12 gauge, they’re hit or miss on having 16 shells

I’ve been each of the last 5 years, taking this year off though. You can fly into Sioux Falls, and it’s about a 3 hour drive from there. And it’s pretty close to the Badlands and you’ll have time to check that out in the afternoons after you get your limit

I’ve put in for a deer tag every year, but have yet to get picked. There’s some big mulies that come off the Mesa probably 500 yards in front on the lodge. Last year, I brought a coyote call and my 30-30 and picked them off from the front porch

Colorado was sneaky nice when I’ve been.

South Dakota is not Colorado though…

Meaning that SD is not as good or???
Not even close. It’s not a mountains and trees state. It’s mostly flat and farm. The “black hills” is the only scenic area and it’s in the middle of absofuckinglutely nowhere. Like you’ll get there, then be five/six hours away from anything of note.

Good to know. I've never been there. I think the only reason for me would be to visit Little Big Horn if I am going for the sites. Hunting? It has to be good stuff there

I don’t know shit about hunting. I imagine it has to be worth it for Chewy to do it all the time. The drive through South Dakota is fucking miserable.

If you’re looking to do it for the sake of doing it, it’s worth it.(I’ve driven all over both Dakotas, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska…South Dakota and Nebraska will make you want to kill your self) just saying don’t expect Colorado if you were to go to South Dakota

I do want to visit Moab National Park but I believe that is in Utah? My cousin was in the badlands a few years ago site seeing and he said it was the hottest place he had ever been. That didn't sound appealing to me. A trip in the fall maybe better

Next time you are free and in Wyoming you could go hunting with me and Dick Cheney
