There's lots of rock mining in the Sioux Falls area.

It's beautiful red granite. I have a couple big chunks in my rock garden. It took a skid loader and a Tommy Lift to move them.

They're also used on a lot of dams across the central and northern Plains.

Unless you're talking about something I don't know of, Sioux Falls pink rock is quartzite.

I just know that the type of pink rock quarried in that region is done in South Dakota, southern Minnesota, and northern Iowa.
That pink rock is a big part of even their visual surface landscape.

Yep. Used in most roads around that neck of the woods as well.

In Mississippi they'd use oyster shells mixed into the asphalt.

Their roads were slicker than snot in a rain.
