GAME Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss v Baylor 7:45c ESPN

It all sounds great until you see the amount of cash a player loses when getting injured in a meaningless bowl game. Jaylen Smith went from a top 5 pick to the 2nd round. It went from 5 years guaranteed and 30+ million to only 4 years guaranteed. Cost him 10+ million dollars to win what?

Jake Butt went from the top TE in the country to blowing out his knee in a meaningless bowl game. He went from projected late 1st, early 2nd all the way to the 5th round. The NFL only guarantees rookie contracts in the 1st 4 rounds.
Again, I said those do happen. You can't probably come up with more than a handful. It isn't enough to have 30, 40+ kids opt out around all of the bowls this year?

If you are going to play football scared you probably shouldn't play football.

It's just my opinion.

Yes, unfortunately ego over character. Won’t be long before we start seeing guys sit out playoff games and mid season. Sad what CF is becoming
nothing to do with ego and everything to do with preparing for their future. football is a violent game, any play could be their last. if you had a winning lottery ticket, would you risk it? NFL rookie contracts will set those kids up for life and many of them came from absolutely nothing. It can change not only their life, but their entire families life.

I got crushed yesterday on the alabama game, team total for gumps and the game over.

It didn’t come close
Bowl season is hard to handicap

When did late hits out of bounds start being called when you were finishing a tackle that started inbounds? Seems like 10 yrs ago that was never called

Cant throw a guy down 5 yards out of bounds when could have easy let up at end. They’ve been calling like that for a while

The issue is -- you don't know who or when an injury is going to happen. Do you think a NFL team with a top 5, top 10 pick is going to draft Matt Corral if he can't throw for them before the draft?

If he can't throw at the combine or in private workouts -- his draft stock will drop. Zero teams are going to say, let's spend millions on a quarterback we haven't seen throw in person, but he has high character.

And it isn't about "being scared" -- it is, BY FAR, the smartest decision any player outside the CFP can make for themselves. For years and years, they make decisions for the school and everything is about the team.

Man, this offense looks terrible

And he’s on record saying he wouldn’t have changed a thing
I'm sure his bank account disagrees with him. Jake Butt's net worth right now is between 100,000 and 1 million. If he were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round of the NFL draft -- he would have made roughly 15-20 million. He is now out of the NFL.

So do you think it was worth it to play in the Citrus Bowl or whatever pointless bowl we played that year?

Meh, I’ve heard this for 20 year now. I’m a bit older and fortunately I was able to see the best years of competitive college football. Unfortunately the game is trending down.

I feel like that would have never been called if it wasn't on the Baylor sideline. The announcer mentioned it came from like 30 yards away.

I get it. You are all for their selfishness and agree with the value. I like college football and really hate this continued watering down of the late season product that is 80% due to the transfer portal and opt outs.

If bowls are that dangerous then just end them. Let the CCG be the last of the season if those are all that you feel are worth playing for.

My MVP this game???

You think he was 15 feet from the field?

It's rare but it matters significantly to the player at hand. As long as it wasn't a major knee injury I think he'll be fine.
