I heard on the radio that they asked Liberty and were turned down.

i think there were talks before the Sun Belt moved in. and Liberty felt like staying indi was better. may have been different with near by Marshall and ODU still in the conference

I was listening to a guy tsk about Conference USA and he had some good points:

1. It has the lowest conference payout at about 500K
2. The distance and travel for non-football schools is a big burden financially
3. NCAA has a limit of a minimum of 6 teams to be a conference

They’ve got some big issues on their hands and they don’t have to be solved this year but there’s no guarantee that they will survive even if they find solutions.

After digging into it, 8 seems to be the answer. A story misquoted Brett McMurphy and I think that's where 6 came from.

Outside of ODU, Marshall, Southern Mississippi and JMU all have great football tradition. I think these are all pretty nice additions. They will clearly be the best G5 conference when it's all said and done.

They’re good programs, but not fun. Add Liberty and Charlotte and you’ve got some fun teams
