Tennessee Dodges BYU

There’s a reason why Bronco Mendenhall left BYU for Virginia. It’s a better job and a tougher matchup. Virginia ain’t losing to UAB

BYU has a better record vs the CUSA than UVA does. Just fyi.

They traded a definite loss for a probable loss

Tennessee Volunteer football just doesn't have what it takes anymore

Tell the Mormons to pound sand and we play in state and stack the deck for a great season win total.

Just call us Ohio State and/or Florida..

UT is finally getting its act together and using its head for a change and Auburn hates it but ya know what, we don’t care.

I give Tennessee credit. When Oregon really got things rolling between 2010 and 2014, a lot of programs starting dropping out of agreed series with Oregon citing travel as the main concern. Tennessee didn't. They took their beating like a man

Mark ass tricks. Skip skop skalawags.

No. Florida has a lot of upcoming OOC away games, and I don’t recall that ever happening to our superior program.

UT is on their own. Deflection doesn’t work. Defend yourself!

I don't like it.

I think it came down to $$$$. No one really looks at it based on actual football. They could make more $$$ in a home game against Virginia than traveling to BYU.

This is going to come back to bite them in the ass. Teams are going to see what happened to BYU and Army and they aren't going to want to put themselves in that position and at a minimum, they are going to start asking for more money and big payouts to get out of the games.

Scheduling is a pain in the ass enough without making other teams leary of scheduling you. It's a bid deal for Tennessee to buy out the BYU game that was supposed to be in Provo and that is a marquee game they would have used to sell season tickets that can't be replaced.

Right now UT's reputation on scheduling is crap.

Actually a lot of teams are doing this often. For some reason, we are getting more attention.

Look at Georgia's 2022 schedule below for example. They bought out of games with Virginia and East Tennessee State. Even your Auburn Tigers regularly buy-out of games. I am also not sure sure if Tennessee was the only one that wanted out of the BYU matchup. BYU is moving to the Big12 and I imagine that impacted their schedule and may have made the buy-out more attractive to them. The key is that Tennessee should have MOVED it instead of buying it out. The worse infraction by Tennessee, IMO was buying out of North Carolina matchup in 2012 to keep the Oregon game. We should have dumped the Oregon game because we were no match for Oregon and played North Carolina (or at the least rescheduled the games to have both).

Army was another shitty move.

@Wild Turkey

Auburn cancelled a game last year against Alcorn State. Probably didn't mean much but just wanted to point out that it is very common for games to get cancelled.

Understand. It wasn't a cut at Georgia, it was just pointing out that teams are doing this fairly regularly across the country. Sounds like Tennessee would have rather played Virginia than BYU. Tennessee clearly didn't want a road game and felt like they could not make the $$$ off of it.

Still a shitty move unless BYU wanted to get out of it too.

Are you talking about the game that was supposed to be played during COVID and the SWAC canceled their seasons? We played them last year.
