I've been to Neyland twice.
Once 30 years ago and again about 8 to 10 years ago and the difference was amazing. I think the Titans pulled a lot of riff raff out of the UT fanbase that went to the games and it is much more family friendly now. I was not impressed the first time and thought there were too many assholes but the last time was great and its one my favorite away spots now.
I'd rather go to Knoxville than Gainesville or Athens for sure. Now Baton Rouge is still my number one must go to away game.

That was an amazing game. Even though Michigan State lost it was the catalyst for a 15 year chip on our shoulder. It was the “Little Brother” game.

Honestly, it is very tame compared to soccer. Go to a European Soccer game and tell me that Tennessee was out of control in the win over Alabama.

You didn't go to college, i'm guessing, if you think an early time slot will discourage drinking and misbehaving. It'd just give them an excuse to get hammered earlier.

I think storming the field is a right of passage in college, especially after big games. That being said -- opposing players should be reserved the right to lay out any fan who wants to get in their face or make contact with them. So it'd be an enter at your risk sort of thing for the fan.

That is the only part about storming the field that I don't like. These athletes/kids just lost after playing an emotional and taxing game -- they are devastated and then you have a bunch of drunk kids running on the field and talking trash to them.

True Story:
I've been to 343 CFB games in 78 total stadiums over the years. I've had very few negative experiences, mostly because I am not an ass-hole fan. However, I had one really funny thing happen back in 1996. My sister (Auburn fan) and I (Alabama fan growing up) were in Atlanta for the weekend visiting our Grandmother who was in the Hospital. Once we got there and visited for a while, we needed to get away a bit. So, we made up a story and left on Saturday afternoon and headed to the Tennessee @ Georgia game in regular clothing. We were incognito.
Got to Athens, scalped some tickets and saw a great game. Tennessee with that Peyton Manning dude won 29-17. He even had a highlight play or two. During the game, there was a drunk Bulldog fan a couple of rows behind us constantly berating the Georgia QB play. It was annoying, but it's a football game, so I just ignored it. However, at some point in the 2nd half, my sister had enough, turned around and said: "And what position did you play in college?" lol. Made everybody laugh, and he finally shut up.
After the game, we were walking out behind a couple from Tennessee all decked out in their gaudy orange. The lady turned to her husband and said: "I've never been to a place with ruder fans! I'd much rather go to a game @ Alabama or @ Auburn, because their fans are so much nicer to be around." My sister and just looked at each other and laughed about that. It's true though. As arrogant as Alabama fans can be, and as much as Alabama and Auburn fans do not like each other, both places are above average in hospitality to visiting fans.

Something that I have noticed about Neyland is typically non-SEC fans or fans of SEC teams that are not a rival have great experience and rave about how nice Tennessee fans are but fans from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, etc. talk about how much of an asshole Tennessee fans are. Florida and Tennessee fans seem to get a long despite being rivals.
I guess it is just random chance with experience.
Funny story, I was at the 1997 SEC Championship game and there was these two Tennessee fans with overalls on in front of me and they would shout these funny chants like "Give the Ball to Jamal" and "Pass to Nash" reference Jamal Lewis and Marcus Nash.

To some extent. We are all Americans. I think fans can go overboard and treat each other very bad. Even I sometimes need to step back and calm myself down. (I tend to be more of a poor fan when we lose, I don't really rub it in when we win).

I've been to Neyland just once (2012 vs. Alabama), and I had a GREAT time. Not a single negative thing. One thing I really liked was that the P.A. announcer made a point of reminding Veterans that they could salute the flag. I have only experienced that one other time (@ Minnesota this year for the Purdue game).
