Why is the 24-25 SEC estimate such a steep increase? 25-26 and beyond makes sense because that is the expected time that OU and Texas will be in. Why would such a steep increase happen the year before? They aren't earning anything for the SEC yet.

Or am I mistaken?

My guess would be that is when their next contract negotiation will be. The B1G and SEC alternate who makes the most money on TV revenue, but adding Texas and OU will likely make them the top earners now.

No, you dipshit.

The new SEC contract was signed in Dec 2020 and goes into effect in 2024. It's a 10 year deal and not due for renegotiation until 2034.

It doesn't have to be renegotiated when TX/OU join as it will automatically be more TV revenue.

I think it's because TX/OU are expected to go before that. i.e. When the GOR penalty gets more reasonable. Every year that passes the GOR penalty gets smaller. Previous fiscal revenue X 4 years, X 3 years, X 2 years, etc..

These media rights contracts are fluid based upon eyeballs. They are simply a forward looking estimate. If TX/OU go to the SEC in 2023 than there will obviously be more eyeballs on the marquee matchups, therefore more revenue to the conference in 2024 and 2025.
The fee actually stays the same.. which is why Texas twitter and on boards make fun of the sooners. They can't pay it. Texas still gets it's LHN money in full even though they are leaving it behind when they join the SEC. Which is why the fee doesn't matter since they can offset it easily.

I still think that this will be the last season for both. I get that Bowlsby is still hurt and is trying to be petty, but it's gonna get worked out.

If 'the fee actually stays the same' then why has it always been 'estimated'?

So the penalty is apparently 2X the last fiscal year's Big 12 revenue payment?

FY 2020 was $38 million/team X 2 = $76 million?

FY 2021 will be different so a different penalty amount.

So why not make the jump now.
Why wait for us.
they need both of us at the same time.. why just have one extra team in a pod/division?

Also the projection of the Big12 is not as good as that chart indicates.. They still haven't been granted early negotiations.. who knows if ESPN will low ball them.. Will FOX come and rescue them?

i'll BRB.. gonna find the article that came out like 2 weeks ago explaining it all

i'm trying to find a write up of the article since it's behind the paywall, but surly has bits and pieces spoilered.

it is equal to the PRIOR two years of media rights

Buyout Amount. Any Withdrawing Member shall pay to the Conference a commitment
buyout fee (the “Buyout Amount”) in an amount equal to the sum of the amount of
distributions that otherwise would be paid to the Member during the final two years of
its membership in the Conference.

this article pretty much sums up the Chip Brown piece.. some cliff notes;

"However, as Brown rightly notes, the teams will have to pay the roughly $80 million in exit fees regardless of if they leave in 2023 or 2025, as the members of the league agreed to a “99-year” grant of media rights in 2012."

"According to Brown, “Multiple sources told Horns247 this week, as of right now, Oklahoma isn’t as financially flexible as Texas is when it comes to having to pay the roughly $80 million in exit fees."

"The implication was that Oklahoma is going to need until 2024 to figure out the financing of its exit from the Big 12.
“"

But I'm still in belief that this will be the last season UT/ou will be in the conference. Think ESPN will front the exit fees for both schools (they can take it out of the LHN payout for UT) and they can do a payday loans type of deal with ou.. Also think they put pressure on Bowlsby to reduce the $80mil price tag.

Well heck. They mine as well just leave while they've got the covid fiscal year buyout included in the 2 years.

TX will take a slight pay cut due to LHN, but OU will get an immediate pay raise. Just go already.

Hence the reason I prefaced it by saying "My GUESS would be" and not the reason is. Maybe reading comprehension isn't your strong suit.

And FYI -- just because you bold part of a statement, doesn't mean the rest of the statement wasn't made.

it's like a 30 mil jump for ou.. and about a 20 mil jump for UT.. which is why I do think this will be the last season playing in the Big12

The only person bringing up the 80's ad nauseum is you, dipshit.
By truly believing you can be nationally elite while recruiting in the 15-30 range -- you believe CFB is still the same as the 80's and 90's.

So you were just shooting from the hip... Again.

Got it.

You are the only one posting such nonsense. Ad nauseum, no less.

Paragraphs upon paragraphs, pages upon pages, and threads upon threads.

Then ty -- you finally agree with me that the days of Nebraska being nationally elite are over unless CFB completely overhauls how they do recruiting.

First Nebraska related thread I saw. This is pretty cool and funny.

I want one healthy season for Venables and the new coaching staff to get their feet on the ground playing an easier schedule in the Big XII. Then let's blow this pop stand. I can't tell you how tired I am of hearing my Jr. friends complain about how we have left them in a lurch. And here I thought OU was the bad guy all these years running up a 90–19–7 record against them. I will feel some remorse for schools like Iowa State. Kansas is another school that can suck it. TCU deserves better but what can I say? As for the rest of the conference it's "meh". I'd like to keep Bedlam but if it's going to be accompanied by a bunch of drama I'd rather just wave goodbye and see who is better off 10 years from now.

You're ate up. Nebraska lives rent free in your narrow minded bean 24/7.
You have nothing else to offer.
It's hilarious.

saw the clips of Casey talking about how much better NIL deals are there compared to Austin on twitter..

I really do wish Casey the best, not mad at him at all, he trooped through a hell of a bad streak for my horns

But I thought this was funny
