Texas A&Ms new HC: Mike Elko. (For real this time)

Better hire than Stoops but I still don’t see him elevating A&M to the next level. Perennial 8-4/9-3 but unlike Stoops I think he will pop in a year here or there where they make the 12 team playoff
*Cheaper than Stoops too

He'll continue to be a thorn on the side with defensive recruiting.. I bet he'll flip Devin Sanchez from tosu next summer

Elko has two years of HC experience and that was at a program with very little expectation. Turn around job at Duke has been good, but there's a lot of unknown here. Impossible to know how he's going to fare. if he didn't serve as Texas A&M DC's for four years, he probably isn't getting much of a look at this job. that's the business world though.
That's how I see it. Without the prior aTm connection, he isn't even on their radar.

Dude hasn’t really done anything, and I would disqualify a coach that tells his current school he’s not leaving.

Sounds like a snake in the grass that can’t be trusted

I’ll give him 3 years before being fired

This is a very down ACC conference. Don't feed me the Louisville team has 10 wins. They just got beat by SEC team Kentucky. I know Duke had a good season last year, and this season wasn't too bad either. Elko is coming into an SEC conference that is way tougher than the ACC. Elko can go 8-4 with a 9-3 season here and there. Is that good enough for A&M folks?
Gets better players here than he did at Duke, too.

I mean, Gruden was just SITTIN there.. to be had...

As long as ELKO can identify and develop QB like he has so far at Duke... he'll be fine at A&M.
Was Gruden a candidate?

It’s probably a solid hire. It doesn’t dominant the headlines but Aggies just needed a solid coach who isn’t a clown.

Folks.. they’ve had two double digit win seasons since 95. I think expectations don’t match reality for this program.

i think his defenses will be solid.. but i think the offense struggles.. you could have given Duke a few AA players and that offense still wouldn't be much better

BTW word is that he's Sumlin with the bottle

Why is this a good hire? Someone convince me
Elko’s a damn good coach. Outstanding defensive minded coach. He was great as ND’s DC before getting outbid by A&M for his services. But the defense under Clark Lea was Elko’s system.

so terrific DC with question marks as a HC? He was spending more time with his defense per Duke beat writers than he was trying to fix the offense.. Good thing, aggy fanbase is patient :)

Hey he made chicken salad out of chicken shit at Duke.

And Cutcliffe should be a head coach again.
but he's not.. so just because you make chicken salad out of chicken shit at a school who cares more about bball doesn't translate that it equals to bigger wins at a place that cares about football more

I like the elko hire compared to stoops.. the players there still remember him being on staff.. and with Elko he doesn't have a resume of shit offenses the way Stoops has.. so in light of that.. he could be swayed to hire a legit OC who has freedom on that side of the ball. Stoops wants total control of that
