The amount of people here who think WVU has a shot with B1G are delusional. Cockylawdouche dawg fan was correct. WVU has zero shot at the B1G. They value academia above all else.

Markets are becoming increasingly not important because of the streaming aspect. But they still can be important. WVU has a small one in its home state and won’t deliver the DC/Balt area although we are close by and games are usually on.

WVU has 1 shot and that’s the ACC. I pray teams like Clemson and FSU fight for us and tell to Tobacco Road to shove it or else like they did with Louisville, but I don’t have my hopes up.

This is a sign for things to come, but I do feel bad for the Big 12 programs that will be left in the cold. Some might go to the B1G or Pac, but some of them will be going to Conference USA or the MWC

Agreed. I just think it is funny to say Georgia would no vote, because GTech may come calling. This is about money. Not many programs that bring money in like Texas and OU. These are large national fan bases. Both are top 10 assets to a conference. Why else do you think the SEC has been negotiating for 6 months behind A&Ms back?

I think there are two top reasons and money isn't one of them (because the new deal is going to kill it regardless):

1. 16 teams and 4 pods make the scheduling so much easier because for some reason they can't get the votes to go to a 9 game conference schedule.

2. It solidifies the SEC as the top conference in the country, ends that discussion completely and the gap just got so large it will never be touched. The power and prestige this gives the conference is immeasurable. The B1G fans that complained about ESPN's coverage of the SEC are about to be put into their graves. When colleges kick the NCAA to the door (which is coming) the SEC will get most of what they want at the negotiating table.

I also think this will increase the demand for other P5 schools to schedule SEC schools in non-conference games because they will want to seem competitive from a recruiting standpoint. The vast majority of 5 stars recruits will at least consider an SEC school now on their list and the amount the SEC will get will be astronomical as well as the NFL draft picks coming out.

When the SEC goes to exclusively streamed content (at some point this will happen in the next decade or two) the entire college football world will have to get the package or they will miss out on 70% of the key games.

I think UGA will vote for it. Nobody is gonna be pushing for Gtech to be welcomed back into the SEC. Florida and USCe? Idk.

As much as we like to make fun of the SEC as being redneck morons. I will say they are the best run league. They are out-front of trends. I think hype has been over-played, but have to admit the SEC won the marketing battle. I think this is just another example of that. Everyone knew another round of expansion was coming. Now SEC is talking Texas and OU coming and leaving the others to fight over smaller programs (Notre Dame being the exception to that). Just to highlight that there is a rumor floating around that Kansas will have a call with the Big 10.

In a perfect world there would be 4 conferences of 18-20 and the 4 conferences would be drawn up geographically. I would love that, but that is never going to happen

At first, a lot of SEC fans were opposed but this move solves several headaches. I still say Texas is probably the biggest winner in this move and I will explain why below. Texas A&M, however, may not lose very much and may come out a winner in this move as well.

1. Restoring rivalries. What you effectively get is a lot of rivalries restored if the division is split East and West as proposed. The East would be mostly made up of "original" SEC Schools. Only LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss State are left in the West from the original cast and all three don't necessarily have major rivalries with anyone in the East. Alabama vs. LSU might be the lone example of a lost rivalry but it was more of a recent than historical rivalry. LSU's two biggest, end of year, rivals in Arkansas and Texas A&M are retained in the West. The Mississippi schools will be fine as long as they retain their fight against each other.

2. Texas and Texas A&M win big. Both struggled in the Big12 partially due to the over abundance of other Texas teams and lack of major matchups. Now there is only one matchup in Texas that will matter every year. Texas vs Texas A&M will become a lot like the Alabama-Auburn rivalry. There is no other Texas team in the region to compete. All of the other Texas teams will LOSE BIG as these two programs will define the state. There is enough room for both to be competitive and I don't see the Aggies going away any time soon with will benefit not just A&M but Texas as well.

Texas wins bigger than anyone. They dump the other Texas teams that competed with them for recruits and embarrassed them with defeats. They restore the game with A&M, keep Oklahoma game, restore an annual rivalry with Arkansas, and gain a rivalry game with LSU. Not to mention the possibility of games against top teams in the other division. You push out some of the smaller schools and gain big-time and historical rivalries. The SEC West is a good fit for creating new rivalries. LSU vs. Oklahoma, Arkansas vs. Oklahoma, Arkansas vs. Texas, Arkansas vs. Texas A&M, Arkansas vs. Missouri, Ole Miss vs. Missouri, etc. These games are just a good fit.

3. Money - Let's be honest this is the main reason for this move. The SEC now has the following all-time greatest CFB programs:

1. Alabama - The article has OU as #1 but I don't see how Alabama isn't #1
2. Oklahoma
7. Texas
10. Tennessee
11. LSU
12. Georgia
13. Auburn
15. Florida - They should be higher IMO
19. Arkansas
23. Texas A&M
24. Ole Miss

Granted some of these programs are interchangeable but it shows you the slew of power teams that are in the league now.

4. Division Balance - I think the chance for Balance is still strong. The West loses its titan Alabama but Oklahoma is a titan. Sure, Oklahoma will need to shore up their defense but I have confidence they will start to recruit SEC talent and be a legit contender very soon. It won't be hard for Texas to rebound either. Arkansas looks like it is on the upswing, LSU is two years removed from a National Title, Texas A&M finished #4 in rankings last season and is bringing in tons of talent, the Mississippi schools have interesting coaches that have schemes that are very familiar to the Big12 newcomers.

I tend to be long winded, so no criticism there. But you wrote a lot when divisions are toast. They will have to go to pods. No one wants to play teams every 6 years, or now every 7 years. Also, with the CFP at 12, getting the best 2 in the CFP irrespective of divisions is key. So, I like what you wrote, but it's a moot point ... divisions are gone.
