I think there are two top reasons and money isn't one of them (because the new deal is going to kill it regardless):

1. 16 teams and 4 pods make the scheduling so much easier because for some reason they can't get the votes to go to a 9 game conference schedule.

2. It solidifies the SEC as the top conference in the country, ends that discussion completely and the gap just got so large it will never be touched. The power and prestige this gives the conference is immeasurable. The B1G fans that complained about ESPN's coverage of the SEC are about to be put into their graves. When colleges kick the NCAA to the door (which is coming) the SEC will get most of what they want at the negotiating table.

I also think this will increase the demand for other P5 schools to schedule SEC schools in non-conference games because they will want to seem competitive from a recruiting standpoint. The vast majority of 5 stars recruits will at least consider an SEC school now on their list and the amount the SEC will get will be astronomical as well as the NFL draft picks coming out.

When the SEC goes to exclusively streamed content (at some point this will happen in the next decade or two) the entire college football world will have to get the package or they will miss out on 70% of the key games.
I believe pods would be 9 IC games ... 3 in your pod each year, 2 from the other 3 pods, rotating. That's 9 games per year, playing every teams at least every other year, with a home and away in a 4 year period.

At this point I highly doubt Georgia is afraid of GT. I totally get South Carolina though..
No one is going to vote against an extra 30 million a year.

If you’re just gonna copy my script, there’s a QUote button on the lower right. 😃

Markets are becoming increasingly not important because of the streaming aspect. But they still can be important. WVU has a small one in its home state and won’t deliver the DC/Balt area although we are close by and games are usually on.
Streaming doesn't affect the value of markets. It's just a different way of delivering content. When you assign value to a market, it's how many eyeballs, and in particular buying eyeballs you have. If that's the cost of a stream, or advertising, at the end of the day what matters is how many people are consuming the content. While the state of WV, or its largest cities are no prize, it could be that you have enough rabid WVU fans that it would make sense to get into the ACC. Also, it's not like WV eyeballs are shared ... I would guess most WVU residents that have televisions are WVU fans. Maybe a few Marshal fans, I suppose.

You copied it from me and didn't quote it.

LOL ... honestly, I am so far behind in the thread I read it backwards. I hereby edit my post to read, "As ElTexan said, ..."

Most of the big schools couldn’t do that. You think WVU could? Zero chance. They aren’t going to do anything to lose a shit load of money and I don’t blame them.

I'm saying this if the ACC isn't an option. Putting all your sports in the AAC or CUSA or a G5 conference will already significantly decrease the amount of money you'll make from TV revenue. AAC schools make just under 7 million a year off their tv deal. Could WVU strike up a deal with ESPN/NBC/CBS for 6 million a year, and then get the additional 3 million from other sports being in the Big East? Idk, but I'd rather do that than put the rest of my sports in a G5 league.

Odd thing to say in a thread where A&M is working to stop Texas dead in its tracks. That's the epitome of "doing something".
Well, yes, that's true. I stand corrected. You're right. Just can't see the logic in what you are trying to do but it all boils down to the Aggies and the Horns hate each other. I'm cool with that. I used to be in College Station a lot when we were drilling a bunch of wells in that area and I could never quite get over the feeling that the hate is more of a big brother/little brother thing. My Gawd......look at aTm. It's a fantastic university and with a long history of graduates accomplishing good things. But then the aTm people turn around and let Texas get under their skin and, frankly, act childish about it. I wish you were laughing at UT and begging their sorry ass to play you again so you could beat the snot out of them. That would fit the profile a lot better for how the typical Aggie wants other people to see him/her.

Go independent and put your other sports in the Big East. You're going to lose a shit load of money, but it's better than being in the AAC, or CUSA for football IMO. Being in the Big East in other sports would still be a great pitch for those sports.
AAC has a strong argument for becoming a P5 if the Big 12 goes away and they pick up some Schools. If they added the majority of schools left in the Big 12 they would get close to 16 and crap ton more eyeballs. You probably loose Kansas to the B1G and maybe Iowa State but everyone else needs a landing. With a 12 team playoff that would be an automatic conference champ bid without P5 status.

They would be grossly superior to being independent.

This appears to be going down. Which sucks as someone who enjoys the history of sport. But what's another couple rivalries down the drain? We've already lost so many because of realignment.

I think we're on the verge of some type of super conference thing here. Who knows what the hell is going to happen?
By the way, if this happens there are going to be some old Ark and Texas fans really happy. I saw one Pod system that had Texas with Arkansas, A&M, and OU. That is actually bringing back some historic rivalry games. I doubt there are many people in the board that actually experienced Texas/Ark rivalry in its heyday, but the stories paint it as an ugly hate filled rivalry

With steaming the market is the world. The metric is simple number of subscribers regardless where they come from.

Name change to the Confederate Conference.

Won’t happen. Pods will have to be more balance and OU, Texas and aTm are three big draws.

OU and Texas are tied and I can see Arkansas there but I bet aTm ends up with LSU.
