Man, that sucks if he is out ... for him and you.

Who is the backup? Arch?

Maalik Murphy, who hasn't gotten much playing time.

They probably want Arch to keep his red shirt. But that may change now.

I read an article this morning that said Manning would not play but he was getting more 2nd team reps in practice before Ewers went down. I think they will get a firm return date, see how many games they have left before working him into a game if they play him at all.

it's because there are people saying Maalik is also a bit banged up...

He can play up to 4 games and keep his red shirt.
That's so stupid considering he's likely gone after 3 years, 4 max. The RS is useless for higher end QBs and skill position players.

I think what they are trying to do is space out their QB talent so there isn't an overlap or transfer issue. Hard to reload QBs year after year and if the guy is really good in most circumstances two seasons is around average.

people made (or idiot analysts) claimed that no way Arch would redshirt.. Yet here we are and now some are saying you can't burn his redshirt lol

If he's needed he will play and if it burns it, so be it.. they are trying to win.

I get that, but what's the point of the RS unless you think he's gonna stay 5 seasons?

it gives him options in case the worst happens and he still has years of eligibility left?

He’s so good, he won’t see the field for a while.
doesn't have to unless it's being pressed.. you know.. what a real qb room is supposed to look like

I guess, but if that's the case his career is probably done anyhow. For every Hendon Hooker you get about 4 dozen Max Brownes, so making him sit and not develop just for the sake of that seems foolish.

i don't think they are sitting him for the fuck of it.. They have another QB ahead of him that's been with the program a full year longer than him who knows the playbook too. I have a gut feeling they are more afraid of losing MM in the portal because they need both to be battling in the spring and one to backup next season for moments like these.

If MM would transfer just because they don't RS Arch, MM is not the guy. My guess is he transfers in the offseason anyhow since I strongly doubt Arch isn't starting next year.

Maybe they realize playing BYU isn't 2a high school ball and they are worried for Archs health as well.

Comments were made during the recruitment that indicated the Mannings were fine with a red shirt and felt it will help Arch get adjusted. I got the impression their plan all along was for him to reshirt from a development standpoint. They are playing the long game with the kid.
