Texas NIL Bill

It's funny that you don't get that it doesn't matter if it is the SEC or the NCAA ... if states can dictate what the governing entity does, it's not a good thing.

You guys will continue to lose and continue to think you can get an edge by pushing the envelope. You think it's cute, but it's not. Again, my team and school will be fine, so this isn't sour grapes. It's just an understanding of the shitshow this is going to be if the SEC or the NCAA can't have rules.

You are literally seeking anarchy and chaos as if that is a good thing. You think that somehow that will be to your advantage and you are prepared to fuck up the whole thing just because you think it's how you can win. I'd like to think you are trolling, but you don't seem to be.
State laws dictate what private corps and companies do every single day. How you think it's "not a good thing" is stupid.

LOL ... back to back natties, number 1 class this year. You seem to miss that I am not worried about my team. Unlike you Texas folks who like to fuck everything up, I am more concerned about the sport in general.

All those teams are doing so well with the NIL ... have you guys broken into the top 50 yet with all your NIL? I mean ATM spent $20 million for 4 losses and lost half their class.

This is a list of desperate wannabees.
List the half of the class we lost, please.

Be smarter ... I am not complaining about NIL. You know I am all for players getting paid. What I am criticizing states like Texas for is that you are advocating for anarchy and chaos and think it's a funny thing to do. You don't realize that the same big boys who have won in the past will win in a chaos world. It just won't be as enjoyable to watch.
This dunce is correct. Hmmm. Almost sounds like…
@ralphiewvu
“WHAT STOPS A PLAYER FROM THREATENING TO LEAVE TO GET MORE NIL?”

What do I think about someone *negotiating their compensation*? I’ve been extremely clear on that. Everyone in any industry deserves to do that. I’ve written that line on these forums a couple of dozen times.
The reason why we’re in the Wild West right now when it comes to this is because the Schools under the ncaa have colluded to keep principals from negotiating for their compensation for decades, and now they’re getting caught with their pants down.
Now, we have to scramble to create a system that lets principals get paid and also ensures a viable league. This should have happened naturally over the last few decades, but the ncaa didn’t let it happen purposefully and greedily
.
i have also said the above a few dozen times on here.

lol anarchy and chaos? Why cause UT and aggy can raise money and it helps in recruiting?

Guess it was all good when you could just give families money through a church or set kids up with hellcats from a friendly dealer or maybe some cash from a kids hospital...

But God-forbid a state tells the NCAA to kick rocks on something they punted the ball on for years.. it's the end of CFB.. Go watch EPL or something

lol free room and board is PEANUTS compared to what the players bring in.. lol why not pay coaches the same as they pay other professors and admin?
You just named a tiny perk in an endless list of perks a D1 scholarship athlete is provided. How much would personal training in a state of the art facility 24/7, 365 days a year cost? How much would it cost to have your team of tutors? How much would it cost to have your own strength and conditioning coach? How much would it cost to have your own nutritionist? Should I go on? Flights to away games. Hotel rooms. Per diem to eat. Travel clothing provided by major sports brands. All the free tennis shoes, cleats, turf shoes, sandals, shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, jerseys, equipment.

And the coaches are paid like they are because it is the industry standard -- the same reason basketball coaches are paid like that. If the sport makes a profit -- the coaches are paid more, the facilities are much nicer, the lockerrooms are much nicer, etc.

Do you contribute to any collectives or into any NIL funds in any way?

Is this dunce still arguing for the monopsony that is the ncaa and stating that “free room and board and classes” is ‘good enough’ compensation in a multi multi billion dollar industry?
Didn’t I destroy all you immoral unamerican dunces decades ago and every time this subject comes up since?

I'm all for paying athletes, as long as they can treated like professionals as well. You have a QB on the bench a team wants -- you can trade them to another school. If a player isn't performing at the beginning of the year, you can pull their scholarship immediately and release them from the team and school (unless they have the grades to be accepted academically).

You can't have it both ways. If you want to be paid like professionals -- you have to take the good with the bad.

ImIt can't make all the other 350 universities that are voluntary members of the NCAA re-write their rules or live by rules that some idiot legislator in Texas decided to pass.
Quit selling the Texas Legislature short. You should have used “some idiot legislators” with an s at the end. We have wayyyyyyyyy more than “some” and definitely more than one idiot. In fact, it is hard to find one than isn’t an idiot.

The fact is that the state can’t, for the most part, regulate what rules a private entity promulgates. I get that a state can pass laws regulating the behavior of its universities. So, if they say that the universities in Texas can do certain things with NIL, the university may have to comply with the laws. The state of Texas has the right to do that. But, that doesn't mean the NCAA has to live with the new "rules" the legislature of one state has decided to pass. The state of Texas, for example, has no authority over the NCAA which is based in Indiana. It can't make all the other 350 universities that are voluntary members of the NCAA re-write their rules or live by rules that some idiot legislator in Texas decided to pass. The NCAA can do what it wants, for the most part, and if the schools don’t comply they can exclude them from the organization.
Texas doesn't care what the other 350 do. We also don't give a shit about the NCAA. Do you think California cares about the other states when they instituted the CCPA and in doing so forced just about every major company in the entire world to comply? Fuck no.

Do you think CA cared when they tried to change the rules on how gig workers are paid or considered employees? Fuck no

Do you think CA cared when they went to war with the entire digital social media industry by trying to regulate news royalties on the entire industry? Fuck no

But when Texas makes rules for the colleges in their state, it can't be done?

Then what's your complaint? If you aren't paying then what do you care?
To me it’s messing up the game.

Kids are chasing money instead of opportunity and that’s a shame.

Even Saban said the work ethic is going down because the incentive has gone down.

Schools are essentially going to be able to buy championships and we just saw that with LSU baseball. Matter of time before it happens in basketball (which is a complete cluster fuck with NIL, Portal and one and done).

If we want to pay them that’s fine but they should be under contract. Having a system with no salary cap and unlimited free agency isn’t a combination that is healthy for the sport.

flights to away games? u mean the games they are supposed to play? lol Nike pays UT a bag for everyone to wear their gear.. u gonna add the washers and dryers that our provided to them to wash their practice clothing too? lol

again..it's PEANUTS lol

BTW do the coaches also get free gear, food, workout coaches?? do they have to pay for their own flights to the games as well?

Kids chased scholarships before, not much different. Saban will find any reason to bitch about the system that has messed up his bagman system.

A cap and a system to get the Wild West under control will evolve, just as it did in the major league sports. But sticking head in the sand or yearning for the days of yesteryear aren't going to do anything except protect the teams that have the favor of the corrupt NCAA or their under-the-table payment machine well oiled.

Wow I guess Bama is going to have to pay Saban even more for him to instill better work ethics huh? Guess kids aren't just going for hellcats anymore

ahhh the good ol days when you could just pay 400k or whatever to grab a QB freak like Newton and nobody would bat an eye...

Or give a kid a Trans Am to go and play for another team. DOH!

I’m not saying don’t pay the kids but we have to find a solution to the current environment.

It’s ridiculous that kids are transferring at will right now and putting themselves up for bid.

That is an absolute abomination of what should be happening. Put the kids under contract, pay them a living wage and let’s cut out the theatrics.

Most big basketball programs are not recruiting more than one or two freshman a year now and just picking up players in the portal. 50% or more of Rosters are literally flipping yearly now. It’s beyond ridiculous.
