damn.. guess nobody posted the NIL news. They are setting up a private endowment that already has 10 million. 80% going to football while the other sports get 20%. The goal is to raise $150 million. They will be paying each football player (walk ons included) like 100k. That's just for showing up, and yearly. Players can still take advantage of other NIL deals on top of this.
The ONE big problem is that the team constantly has to overcome the softness. Austin is soft. The fans are soft. Austin is literally the best place to live in the world. (Check #1 global destination city for moving to). There’s so much cool stuff to do in what was already a hippy dippy culture in Austin, that the actual wins and losses aren’t taken as hard. And yes, that citywide culture permeates everywhere including the team.
You need to have some absolute killers on their own (VY, Applewhite, Bryant Westbrook, Derrick Johnson, etc) to overcome that and lead their corps and their sides of the ball. The fans don’t help make that a default. You need leaders to overcome the softness.
i can’t tell you how many times I have to shame my section in the stadium to get off their asses and scream in third downs, etc
Sark has to eat this shit sandwich but I will admit.. In the second half of games, the team failed to execute numerous times. Whether it was Casey missing an open WR down field, or WR failing to snag catchable balls, or botched protection shifts along the OL... there were points left on the field. Why I think the team gave up on the coach…
Slightly soft generation of players, and if it’s obvious to us fans, it’s obvious to the players… the coach fails to keep on playing a winning formula in the second half of games that had Texas beating the top three b12 schools at halftime. Handily.
Good news? Players want to play and compete. Next year will be a new year. And 5-7 looks bad, but we did have those leads on all those teams. It’s not THAT dire.
He is a pretty good defensive coach man. I’d take him in a heartbeat. We really about to add Gary fucking Patterson to the staff?![]()
