The Athletic reporting on NIL craziness ...

Possibly, but, as pointed out, Alabama was really public as well about how much Bryce Young was making last year.

Also situations are different, I think there needs to be this positive vibe around Tennessee athletics. I think Nico is going to bring friends and going public was really a recruiting tactic to get more players. It isn't even just about money, it is about, "hey we got this big name QB so come here and play with the top talent."
The issue with the 'bringing elite friends to play' is -- you'e announced what you paid the QB. There is going to be a line out the door for a deal similar for any elite recruit.

So hopefully the morons who announced the deal publicly that they handed out has a blank to check to sign the others to follow him there. When you pay one $8 million -- the other elite recruits aren't going to just come and join for free. They expect to be paid a huge chunk of money too.

A&M was genius with how they did it. Nothing out there but speculation from others.

You guys are still missing the point. Alabama did the same thing with Bryce Young. Explain how it was any different other than Tennessee paid more. I think the tactic was also, "look what you can make if you come here kind of argument" to help recruiting. Same tactic Saban used with Bryce Young.

No one sells shirts for $5. T-shirts are $25 or higher. Also, your math is off. You are paying him 2 million. That means you need to sell 400,000 shirts. But no one is buying 200,000 or 400,000 T-shirts for one player. By the way, that's for year one. You going to sell 200K or 400K more in each of the next 3 years?

Absent him becoming the most popular player of all time - think Tebow - the amount you are paying him is to go to UTjr. There isn't the market demand for that amount of money.

Spyre Inc. or whatever they are called thinks they can make it up or else they wouldn't have done the deal. We will see.

Look at how they are funded. They aren't funded to make a profit. Can you not see that this isn't a legit business? By legit I mean one that is operating with typical market factors in mind? They aren't looking at QB4 and saying if we give him $8 million we will make $10 million. They are saying a bunch of UTjr alumni gave us millions to go out and buy players for UTjr. We have to make it look like we are making money, to some degree and that this is legit, but really we are just over the counter, legal, bagmen. No one is checking our books at the end of the year to see if we turned a profit.

I'll bet he is ... now the Vols going to tell us this former USC player just loves Josh Heupel and downtown Knoxville TN! Woo hoo!

The point you are missing is -- Bryce Young didn't sign a contract to attend Alabama for $1 million a year. He signed with Alabama and the NIL deals he has accumulated during his time there adds up to almost $1 million.

So the players signing with Alabama aren't expecting $1 million to sign with them. What Tennessee did is was offer a guy $2 million a year to sign with them. So guess who else is going to lining up with their hands out? Every other elite recruit will start negotiations with Tennessee now with -- how much you guaranteeing me to sign.

Pretty much this ... Young's came to him the way the NIL was intended to work. That isn't to say that Bama won't have a collective and that they won't play the game - of course they will. I've been posting that for the last few pages. All the teams have or will have collectives and are setting up NIL deals. No one has come out and admitted they paid $8 million. Maybe your are right ... maybe that will be a good way to get people to come to UTjr. See the USC transfer above. But he will be gone by the time your CaliBoi gets there and is ready to play.

Look perhaps you have to mix things up while Bama doesn't. I don't know. We will see if this is smart of not.

Who cares if he does? Who cares if they offer him $100m. if they have the money then what does it matter? Be less poor and get him if you want him.

Because NIL deals weren't common when he was being recruited.

It's a thread about NIL ... I don't care if he goes there. I do care about our game when NIL gets out of control and rising Juniors in high school are getting $8 million dollar deals which is more than most NFL guys get, and when there don't seem to be any guardrails on the whole thing.

All this can be true:
- I am totally ok with players getting paid, and getting to profit from their NIL. It's been due for a long time. I am also for the transfer rule.
- I am for the original intent that NIL should be awarded after a player gets to the school and plays ... it shouldn't be for the inducement to come to the school. That was written into all the laws, and was in the NCAA rules. It's being totally ignored.
- If there is going to be pay for play, and you can directly induce a player to come to your school, then the NCAA should promulgate rules to that affect so that everyone has a level field in this regard. Then the collectives can do their thing.
- No matter what happens, my school UGA will be right in the thick of it ... we won't be handicapped by NIL. My school isn't one of the "poor" you mention. We had the no. 3 class and whatever it cost us, it wasn't $30 million.

You seem kind of defensive. Could that be due to the $30 million you guys dropped for that last class?

Not defensive at all. just don't understand your constant writing of novels that boil down to nothing but you being a total piece of shit. If UGA lands this kid for $8M there are 18m less words from you crying about it. Get the fuck over it. "Come play here and we will pay you this" is what we all knew NIL was going to be. If you couldn't figure that out, or can't handle it then just get off the internet and find some Elmers glue to sit around and eat. Jesus Christ, never seen anyone get so fucking butt hurt about people you don't know or schools you don't attend.

Now write me another 5k word essay that I won't read.

Fucking iIgnore me if you don’t like my posts. I’m not stopping. I bring value here whether you like it or not. Listen to you, your sensitive shit. Talking about your team buying a class and you get your panties in a wad, all to go 8-4 again.

If you didn’t think people were going to talk when you bought your class, get off the Internet. Talk about butt hurt.

And 247, and On3, and The Athletic, and all sorts of other resources. You got a problem with people who actually seek out knowledge? That seems odd.

@WhosYourDawggy and @NewPhoneWhoDis

To address several points:

1. Sprye has to make profit. This is coming from insiders and also people at VolNation who live in Knoxville and have far better connections and understanding of the situation then you. It is risky and they need to sell merchandise and other licensing opportunities

2. Regarding the Bryce Young situation, the big complaint you guys have had is Tennessee making it public. Well that is exactly what Alabama did with Bryce Young just last year. Also git out of here with the whole, it was not connected to boosters/school crap. Alabama boosters were a big part of that $ 1 Million. Alabama has been busted constantly for under the table tactics. Alabama's exact communication with Bryce Young was bragging about how much he got on NIL in public. Now news breaks that a QB from a rival is making more and they are all whining as expected that they got outbid. Heck, Bryce Young may want to ask for more money now lol. Alabama went public with NIL long before Tennessee.

3. @fordman84, thanks for defending me but I think all of you need to step back and catch a breath. Once again, I am not trying to be mean, but all of this complaining sounds like sour grapes. Sure, Tennessee hasn't been good at football for a while. We have had bad administrative decisions that led to that. This is a new administration and a new era. The past is the past. I think that is what may have you @WhosYourDawggy nervous. Georgia went through a very rough spell in the 1990s until Mark Richt came there. You guys got your tails whipped by Florida, Tennessee, and even Georgia Tech most of the time. Teams and Programs have dry spells. Most of it has to do with coaches/administrations. Where was Alabama pre-Saban?

4. Sure, money was a big part but you have to actually like the place and the coach before you go there. Would you accept a job that paid more without doing an interview or meeting the manager?

Texas and Texas A&M will make out like bandits in this new deal. Texas already has 4 separate NIL companies.

talk trash all you like, but spare us your holier than thou bullshit. I've never once complained about our class or that we bought it, never once denied it. My only issue is your constant bitching about it. Grow the fuck up.

You do know that old dawg is an attorney...don't you? Gotta be one of the first things they teach 'em in law school.

I play golf with a couple of retired attorneys. One is even a retired judge. That's worse.

You will think I'm making this up but their names are Bernhard and Ernest...or Bert and Ernie. I hate having to be the score keeper for the group when they play. When I asked what they had on the last hole I get a two minute blathering about how they played the entire hole. "JUST SHUT UP AND TELL ME THE FUCKING NUMBER".

My talking about NIL and what it is doing to the sport is basically what everyone else in the CFB world is doing. It's one of the biggest subjects people are talking about. My "constant bitching" to you is simply discussing current events. It just seems to make you get all out of sorts when I do it. Hmmmm.

If you'd not be so angry with my posts where I jab at your school in fun, you'd see that I am ok with NIL in general, even it being used for recruiting if that is where it is going. As I've posted many times, even in posts that you criticized were too long - I suppose it challenges your ability to read - my team will do just fine with NIL. Even if means balancing the talent I am okay with that. How many fans of teams who are on top right now are willing to say that? If you look at my posts for the past half year you would see I have been consistent in that even if it cuts against my best interests.

There are people here acting as grown ups, and I am one of them. My posting on this has been rational and consistent. Take a deep breath and you will see that is true.

I am a vociferous reader, and I type fast. It's a curse.

I feel for you being out on the course with lawyers and judges. I thought retirement was supposed to be fun!
