For the longest time I held the original Star Wars trilogy as the best and didn't think that anything could top it. Over the past 10 years or so my appreciation for how great The Lord of the Ring movies are that it has easily surpassed Star Wars for me as the best trilogy. I would even put the Nolan Batman trilogy over the Star Wars trilogy at this point. For me its:

1. The Lord of the Rings
2. Nolan's Batman trilogy
3. Original Star Wars trilogy
4. The Matrix trilogy
5. Back To The Future trilogy

The Lord of the Rings movies never really did anything for me...

:hide:

They aren’t HORRIBLE, they just aren’t really re-watchable either.

For me, the original SW movies are still the gold standard. The Dark Knights are solid, but #3 DKR was well below RotJ. And if you actually rewatch The Dark Knight, while it was good, most of its “greatness” is due to Ledger’s performance. Hawt dayum, that was a hell of a performance he put together.

Decent list.

Always thought the 3rd Matrix movie was bad. The Godfather 3 are better in total even though 3 sucked balls.

But I've re-watched the LOTR on my Bluray extended set once or twice for the beauty of it.

1. Back to the Future

2. Nolan’s batman

3. The Matrix

4. Whatever else, Star Wars is lame.

Indiana Jones (because, no that last POS doesn't count!)

All trilogies have their stand out best. For the Batmans, I think they all hold up, Begins is solid and does a good job fitting a lot of origin and more into one movie. The Dark Knight is obviously the stand out. Rises gets a bad wrap, it’s the weakest of the three but is a solid wrap up to the whole thing that could never hold up to the dark knight anyway.

I never could get into that style of movie. LOTR, Harry Potter, Star Wars, any super hero movie, etc, my dick was always limp after viewing the few movies of that variety I did watch.

I liked Star Wars and Empire and such when they came out. Something to do with the mushrooms I was eating before going to the Stanley theatre for the 70 MM show.

I hadn’t seen the original trilogy in a long time until recently, and when I did with the fresh, older eyes, my thought was, what the hell is everyone bitching about the prequel and new trilogies about? The original is every bit as much stupid.

I thought Matrix 2 and especially 3 were pretty shit.

Godfather wins it for me, LOTR is too damn long for me to sit through, and the only time I did, I was annoyed that #3 didn't end about 45 minutes earlier.

Nolan's Batman movies were brilliant.

Bourne Trilogy was also brilliant.

Die Hard, Stars Wars OG, Star Wars Prequels are also in my top 10.

“Also, get off my lawn!”

Yeah but....

I got the DVDs for Xmas one year. Looked at them once.

But when the first one ended when the wife and I saw it blitzed at the theatre, we were far from ready to leave our seats and enter real life. It was like the world had stopped.

We ended up walking out onto Granville St. Bright lights, neon, hookers, cops....

Couldn't get back to our apartment fast enough. Even though sleep was not in the cards.

The whole evening was an "experience".

I had forgotten about the Damon Bournes, I love those and own them.

Have Die Hard box set on DVD, but when it plays in my Bluray it is mini picture. Plays fine on my old Bluray.

Which makes me think of Lethal Weapons. Got a box set of those and the first 2 at least and maybe 3 were entertaining.

I really like the 3rd one a lot more than most. The only thing I would have changed about that movie to make it better would be if the ending was the actual ending and not a sort of happy ending twist at the immediate end.

Lord of the Rings movies are just so well made in every aspect. It's a such a visually pleasing movie with an amazing orchestra soundtrack. So just alone on the senses it is a very rewarding movie watching experience. The story for sure can be tough to get into and I thought the first one was terribly boring so I didn't bother watching any others until re-watching the first one years later, loving it and then watching the next two and loving those too. It really is an epic tale. The second movie has an amazing huge long battle close out the movie.

My only real issue with them is the two hobbits get very gay in the 3rd one and it just seemed very unnecessary.
