The College FB Playoff Thread…powered by butthurt

Michigan was not ecstatic about Alabama being #4.

Of course not. They played no one outside their conference all year. As did Penn St.

The big 10 is a joke. Their best OOC win is Notre Dame by a few points. Louisville smoked ND.

Clemson plays Penn St schedule they have the same record easy

Yes and no. Depends on the bowl and what's at stake.

I'll start by saying that, while I don't agree with healthy players sitting out bowl games, I understand why some do it. To me, you're part of the team and if there's a game on the schedule, you owe it to your teammates to play.

It's unlikely they sit out if it's a playoff game. As nice as the bowls are, the goal is the cfp. If they're intending to go to the NFL, it's understandable that they may not want to risk major injury in a relatively meaningless bowl.

The cfp brings with it the chance to win a national championship, the other bowls don't.
Agreed with most of what you say. And while I feel for FSU, that team, IMO, is not one of the 4 best teams in the country. If they matched up that team today against Texas, Bama, Wash, or Mich, it gets skull fucked by better than 2 to 3 scores. Give it a month nothing much changes. I have seen them play(along with every other team) and FSU has one trick, a defense. Nothing else stands out about this team presently. Like I said previously, I feel for FSU, but in the end they are not presently one of the top 4 teams in the country, nor will they be in a months time. Georgia will show them to not be as good as their record states. And that is my opinion.

Okay. Nothing in my post about FSU.

If it's about the 4 best teams in the country...why is Georgia out? Virtually everyone I've seen/heard seems to think that Georgia would be favored against every team in the cfp, including Bama.

So why are they not in and why is FSU ranked ahead of them if it's really about the "4 best teams"?

FPI wise, Bama and Georgia are almost identical. Would Georgia be favored over Bama after Saturday? Maybe. Would they beat Bama? Hard to say. When you look at all measurables on the top 4 teams, they are all closely matched in most categories. As has been asked, if any of the top 4 teams had to play FSU this coming weekend, what is your prediction of the outcome of any of the top 4 versus FSU? If in fact Georgia should be in the top 4, what do you think the outcome of the FSU game against Georgia will be? As a fan of the only team that has beaten Georgia in the last 40 games, I can tell you, Georgia is a tough out for any team.

The ranking behind FSU is a convenient one since they'll be matched up against each other in a bowl game. I think you couldve made the case UGA was one of the 4 best teams as well. They would've been in my top 4.

Why the strawman? It doesn't matter if FSU would be favored against Georgia.

FSU doesn't matter in this conversation. It is your contention that the committee picked the 4 best teams. How can they have the 4 best teams if Georgia isn't in the playoff but would be favored against everyone in the playoff?

Favored is not always a decider of if a team is best or not. Money plays no part in who is best on the field. Bama was an underdog in the game this weekend, did that change the result? Actually dont answer that, because Saban loves to be played off as the underdog. Now, answer my questions

If FSU played any of the Top 4 this weekend, which ones would they beat?

Or a month from now, which ones do they beat? These are points the committee pondered in their decisions I am sure.

As we head towards an expanded playoff, is this the last great debate about who should be in and who shouldn't? Sure. There will still be arguments to be had, but it won't be about the top teams. We'll never likely be debating 3rd and 4th place teams so passionately again, just like getting rid of the BCS dampered the debates over 1 & 2.

It'll be a better system, that I don't doubt. I'd say the 4 team playoff has been better than the BCS and improvement will continue, but will the big arguments be what we lose? It's such a distinctive part of college football that I do kind of hate to see it go.

-Screw everybody who disagrees with me and if you don't agree with me I quit but I'll also kick your ass next time even if I lose because fuck you and your cow college.-

Okay. I probably would too.

However, the argument has been made by Bammers and SEC fans that the committee went with the 4 best teams instead of the 4 most deserving. If it's truly the 4 best teams...Why isn't UGA in?

Putting Georgia in was talked about but we decided that would be a little too greedy since so many teams went undefeated. We can only pull off a two team fix when everyone has at least one loss.

That’s why we have manipulated the 12 team playoff because we can easily get 4 teams in a year and 5 when the circumstances are right.

Just be happy we decided that Washington would be in over FSU as a final salute to the old PAC.

You’re welcome.

Probably because the day before they had a shot to play a playoff team and lost. I know we lost to Texas, but that was the 2nd week of the season and not the day before. So, faced with a tough decision, they dropped them.

If you change the bolded to "committee went with the 4 best conference championship teams" the statement becomes correct and explains UGA being out.

. This made my day. Fucking hilarious
