The electrical grid is being pushed to the limit with this cold system.

A few people go to jail and the companies will get their shit together real quick.
for what though? Like I said, they didn't put any bite into it. Lawyers will talk any company heads from going to jail for "suggestions"

in my industry, you put it into an NRC document or ASME requirement or something...but I don't know what drives those other plants to do shit. They aren't anywhere near as regulated as nuclear.

Snow melts in the sun even at 10 degrees and freezes into ice overnight quite often ;)
Agree. And I've hit patches of black ice in northern locations. But in Texas that is all you get, because it never snows. It sleets and turns to ice immediately. Then melts in the sun and refreezes into more ice.

Yea and we deal with freezing rain every year too it really isnt uncommon :) it is part of living in the north, you guys just never transition over to snow.

For sure, but it is common with you so you are ready for it and able to handle it. It's very uncommon for us. Like how when it is 26 days of 100+ heat and Texas isn't impacted. That shuts down cities in the north though. it's just what we are used to and can handle.

We never lost power once <knocking on wood> but we did lose internet for most of the last two days. it would come up long enough to load emails and a couple of times I tried to get on here but couldn't for more than a post or two. Not gonna knock it though with a lot of coworkers and friends going through hell.

i know 14 people now with destroyed houses from busted pipes. Wifey is making me shut the water off at the street for the next 2 nights....

My parents are staying with us until things get back to normal where they live.

Meh we get that kinda heat too. The beauty of living in the armpit of the united states, hot sticky sweaty wet cold :D just wait a bit and you'll experience something

Gotta love when it is above 100 and the humidity is ungodly and there is zero wind. :D

yeah literally everyone I know. One coworker just sent photos of water running out of his AC vent in the ceiling. Crazy stuff. Don't forget to not just shut it off but then go to the furthest point and open to drain the system.

Oh, we thought you finally took the hint and shut the hell up.

Me being really, really sorry to read what so many are going through right now doesn't do jack shit to make it any better,
But it doesn't change the fact I'm so sorry to read what so many are going through.

found the non-believer in thoughts and prayers. I wondered why we were so low on both thoughts and prayers in Texas over this, now I know.

Haha, yeah, I guess that is kind of the secular version of T's and P's.

Every person who has had slab leak repairs done, or a two story house.
every house i have ever lived in the water heater and water supply is in the basement or lowest level, never once have i had water pipes in the attic, even in a house with 3 above grade floors always basement/lowest level. Maybe its a weirdo thing in texas?
